I would hope so, because then at least someone (yourself) gained something from your post. :D

And hmm... I wonder if "Fuck you" qualifies for flaming...

Yes, it does, and even if it didn't it certainly qualifies for "being a horse's ass," and why would you want to do that?

If you ask us to give you tips on how to endanger everyone around you, then take your lumps when some of us get pissed off about it, and don't keep coming back with smartass bullshit.

:::edit for clarifying the earlier clarity:::

Well this is getting confusing isn't it ;) krwlz didn't say "fuck you" so he wasn't being a horse's ass. I suppose the Toastman was in this case. In any event, how about we all avoid saying "fuck you" to each other. Probably make for a better TFP eh? ;)

Qualifications to add to this discussion: 40 hours sleepless, the last 11 being a drive from arkansas to michigan.
As someone else said, if you wear contacts eye drops are a must- once they start drying out and you start blinking its just asking for those eyes to stay closed.
Take stacker2 pills for your awakey goodness. Be careful to avoid caffiene in pop or coffee for the first hour and a half or so after taking a stacker.
No books on tape- they only put you to sleep.
Radar detector- not only good for keeping the cops off, every time one of those puppies chirps you're wide awake again for 20 minutes.
Upbeat music.
Window down, or at least never get to warm. Warmth=sleepiness.
If you have a significant other and a cell phone, warn them that you might be calling them at oddball times and they're job is to keep you awake. Worked for me- talking to your loved one is a good way to keep me awake.

All good points man. Stacker2? What is that supplement intended for? Rather know all the details about a drug I'm considering taking.

And shakran, I'm sorry my attitude came off wrong. The fuck you i was speaking of was this one:

Fuck you for...

I peronally still don't have any reason to tell someone fuck you. I'm sorry you disagree but...

It was not my intention for my thread to become an argument. Mods, I will not be offended in the least if you shut it down now. I think I got the advice I was looking for, and this doesn't seem to be progressing in a positive manner.

amonkie 07-28-2006 07:21 PM

For those who have ANY doubt .. YES, Fuck you is NOT appropriate dialogue on TFP when addressing another member. You have been warned.

Since you are set on doing it ... I will just say from personal experience that I drove 20 hours nonstop... and then I HAD to stop. I won't get into the fact that my expertise lies in driver safety and performance, as that is not the reason for your post. Physical exercise by stopping from time to time would be my first suggestion - just getting out of the car and walking around a rest area was enough to refresh me for several hours.

krwlz, I'm with you. Ignore em. Having someone preach to you that you shouldn't do something THEY disapprove of doesn't change the reality of your situation, does it? If you've gotta do the drive, then you've got to.

It's sort of like asking folks their advice on baby strollers and being told instead that you're a paranoid, wacko, child-hating, bad teacher. I still can't figure out how that thread went wrong.

Here are our two worst drives EVAR:
1) Grancey and I had to make a drive from Iowa City to Starkville, Mississippi one day with her driving our pickup truck and me in front of her driving our minivan. It was a solid 12-hour drive. With about 4 hours left to go, Grancey realized that the alternator was starting to go bad in the pickup because the headlights were getting dim. Therefore, even if we stopped for a break she couldn't shut off the truck or we'd never get it cranked again. And she couldn't just walk away from a loaded truck with the engine still running, so, she didn't get any breaks toward the end of the drive.

2) Our "special" five hour drive that accompanied our last move. I can't tell you where we ended up because she doesn't want any of those Armed Parent Militia stalkers to know where we live, but we started out from Starkville and ended up where we are now. However, we'd spent the previous two days packing an enormous moving van ourselves (with her brother's help). All day Friday and all day Saturday, including sleeping on the floor Friday night and having a yard sale at 5AM Saturday morning to get rid of as much as possible. Then, we were FINALLY able to pull away from Starkville at 2AM Sunday morning with her driving her Impala, me driving that same damn pickup truck, and her brother driving the moving van. We arrived at our new home at 7AM after driving all through the night after having worked like dogs for two straight days. Today, if I ever encounter something that I think may be too difficult, I just think back on that night and figure if I could survive that nightmare, I can do anything.

.

It's a weight loss aid...

krwlz 07-29-2006 09:27 AM

amphetamines then.... yea, I'll most likely skip that one.

And warrrreagl that does sound like a night mare. At least (being a college student) I haven't got that much stuff, and the packing should be taken care of before hand. Helps that this apartment I've stayed in this summer is furnished. Haha, if it wasn't my Honda Civic certainly wouldn't be making this trip alone.

If your driving is going to be impaired in any way, then it is best NOT to drive on the roads. Not only are you putting yourself in danger, but also many other people driving on the high way.
Please don't put yourself and other people in that position.

man, i have to agree with this. i hope i'm not on the same road as you ar someone else trying to do the same thing. you might have the right to place yourself in danger but not other people!

why not stop at a cheap motel and at least get six hours sleep. then, you can grab some food and head out again. you'll probably spend the next 24 hours after you arrive trying to recover from all the lost sleep anyway, so why not arrive sane and not waste the next day recovering?

It's not beyond the realm of possibility. We'll see how I feel on the road. That decision (for me) depends a lot on what time I get started out of KC. The earlier, the better chance I'll stop and sleep somewhere.

QFT. Good luck, krwlz.

oberon 07-31-2006 12:11 PM

Luck is not a factor.

krwlz, to sum up, do whatever it takes to get your driving done. Just think through what you are going to do. As level five astutely points out, you'll be spending time sleeping one way or another. I think you've figured this out already, but I just thought I'd point it out, just in case.

JStrider 07-31-2006 02:23 PM

when I do the drive from lubbock tx to bakersfield CA or back I do it in one go... stopping only for gas, time my bathroom and food breaks to coincide with having to stop for gas.

takes 17 hours including breaks, baring no slowdowns.

I leave veeery early in the morning and arrive at night...

dont amp up on high amounts of caffiene all at once... I find a lower level maintained over time to work better... you dont have the drop offs when the caffiene starts wearing off.

if you have to pull over on the side of the highway, lock your doors and do a 20 minute power nap, its amazing how much that can help...

if you find yourself starting to drift to the side and hitting the ridges that make noise take a nap even if you dont feel particularly tired...

eat good high quality meals, more like subway over mcdonalds and stay hydrated, with water, even if it means more pee breaks... it'll help you stay awake and you will feel way less strungout from the road the next day.

Gatorade Frost 07-31-2006 02:31 PM

If you take a nap, drink 8oz of coffee or so then take a 20 minutes and the caffeine will clear out the chemicals in your body that are making you sleepy.
