Weight of a PC?

Anyone know the approximate weight of a standard PC? I need to ship one across the world but I'm not sure what it weighs or what it'll cost. Any suggestions? Fedex won't give me a rate without a weight.

It's a standard ATX-sized PC with mobo, 1 hd, 500 watt PSU.. nothing especially heavy. Steel case.

How do I get a box big enough?

Why don't you just weigh your own computer?

Don't own a scale. Bad for one's self esteem, I think :)

Standard weight isn't. Steel case might be 15lbs or 40 plus box. Either borrow a neighbor's scale or start balancing with water at 8.34lbs/gal.

Unless you have ducks or witches handy.

It depends on the case material and what’s inside. my server, mid tower, steel, weighs about 75 lb, my work station, full tower, aluminum magnesium, weighs about 35 lb, my media station, desktop, steel aluminum mix is just under 15 lb.

Just a side note, a client of mine had to ship his laptop to Spain, from California, total cost $250 for a 4 lb laptop. It was insured for $1200. Weight is not your problem, it’s the insurance.

FedEx offices usually have shipping boxes available as well as all the packing materials.. Mailboxe etc will have the same thing, only you get charged a premium for it...

For the approximate weight - i'd go to Dell.com or antoher site that sells computers and check the weight there... see what they guesstimate the weight to be.

Fedex tends to be a little pricey you might want to look at DHL, Airborne, UPS, or even USPS as alternatives...

For example my case alone weighs 23lbs w/out any hardware in it.

They can differ so much, now if you can tell us the exact model of the case you have we can give you a very close #.

Why would you ship a PC? Simpler to replace the disk, sell it. Buy a new one...

(?)

No offense intended, you may have a reason. I'm curious though.

Ended up being 32 lbs!

(And I'm shipping it to a buddy across the world becase well.. it was originally his.. I was just borrowing it while he was gone.) :)

Oh. I see. Yeah I can understand then.
