Insignia gets my vote. Nice, pleasant, my only quibble is that the quick reply box icons are grey on a lighter grey. But I don't use them, so it's alright

I prefer darker backgrounds as well, but frombasics dark hurts my eyes and seems a bit boring to me. I like insignia and eid Muburak the best, and the forest one for a light one.

Here's one more vote for the old forest (?) color scheme. Dark. Beautiful. TFP was my refuge from video migraines.
For now I'm using Insignia but it doesn't hold a candle.

Insignia gets my vote. I used the old Dark Blue before and this is the closest. fromBasics dark is just too dark. The perfect color for me would be somewhere between Insignia and fromBasics Dark.
One thing I don't like about insignia is background color on the tables with the Date and Post number (hex #9DB0C4) is almost identical to the text color(hex #B8C5D4.) It kinda draws your eyes away from the text and I just keep seeing that Blue bar.

I really like the lighter styles (Kirch & I-Bulletin), but understand that many others like dark. I hope that both light and dark themes will be available, even if all of the top vote getters are dark.
And I know it isn't on the list, but the standard V-Bulletin 3 is nice as well.

the fromBasics Dark would be OK, but the margins are entirely too wide and there's no discernible difference between read threads and unread threads...
vbulletin 3 has nice small margins and you can tell what's been read and what hasn't easily... yeah it's a little bright but it's been so damn gloomy lately a little bright is needed... Just less purple...

The voting results seem to be age-specific so far. Some of us older users should still be able to use the simpler formats such as Kirsch and Eid Mubarek. Just something to consider. Thanks for all your work Hal. I really like the vbulletin3.

I've minimally revived the old TFPv4 style.. ya know.. the green one. However a lot is broken, so just be aware. I'll probably reconstruct it under a different style ID, so just be aware that if you use it now, you may have to reconfigure it later.

At the bottom of every page is a pulldown menu for you to select your favorite style.
I'm deleting Candy, Kirsch and I-Bulletin Green/Purple to just clean things up on my end.

I'm getting used to Insignia. I liked the contrast better with the old style but this could grow on me.

A few days in now, I've gone back to good ol' green. In the end, frombasics dark just didn't do it for me. As much as I liked its title graphic and border, I missed having the boundries extend to the width of the browser window, and I didn't like the text styles on the index pages.

It's so funny....I've always been a fan of the original (TFP Green), but I didn't read all of this thread and didn't realize that was what it was called. I changed the style just to see what the others looked like, then got frantic when I couldn't figure out how to get back to TFP Green (again, not knowing what it was called, and it doesn't look green to me, anyway). I really got physically uncomfortable until I found it again. Then it was like a weight lifted from my shoulders. This is pathetic.

Now that I've given them all a more thorough run through, I'm diggin bo20 quite a bit, but the flashing icons on the main forum page drive me nuts, so it's still got to be 2evolve forest for me.

I also prefer the lighter styles, however I don't like the really bright ones.
My favorite theme was the desert/tan as it was light, but not too bright. Hopefully it will return?

Of all the styles currently available, I like I-Bulletin best. I wish I had the chance to try the purple, though, since I discovered the available styles a little late...
I prefer warmer colours but nothing too bright. I'm sort of an in-between guy, I guess... I also like styles that don't artificially narrow the content (they have wide margins, I guess?) . It's just a waste of screen real estate and I prefer the larger font... Last edited by KnifeMissile; 06-05-2006 at 09:48 PM.. Reason: Corrected some factual claims... |
