now we see why that kid was in an alternative school, unfortunately we know where those people SHOULD be...

Why can't they let teachers "fwap" students? A little swat on the back of the head never hurt anyone....hell give the teacher tazers......hell my parents hit me as a kid as necessary and i'm extremely well behaved.

because we live in a society that is thoroughly pussified.

i don't think a thwack on the head will cure anything, but some basic disclpline would help something fierce.

This is a good comprimise, Art. It would be expensive, but I'd support it because watching Mr. Pythagorean for 50 minutes with a gun strapped to his hip might be a distraction to learning.

A couple of people had very good points here about 'overhauling' the educational system in general...

If we can spend BILLIONS to go to IRAQ to chase after non-existant weapons of mass destruction then we can DAMN WELL SPEND THAT MONEY ON A BROKEN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM...

Teachers need to be amoung our highest paid members of society... that way we'll get the best and brightest... It will also demonstrate the value that the US places on education...

Require that parents volunteer in the class room at least once a month... so that they SEE what is going on at school... employers would be required to pay employees for the days they spent at school...

I could go on... security? YES absolutely... demonstrate visually that this is a school and a SAFE ZONE... leave your 'shit' outside these doors... Our students and teachers must be protected and revered!!!

*stepping off my soap box*

Good post Phred. I concur.

Truly disgusting people, those are. I hope they get jailed for a while. Or at least expelled permanently from that school!

Yeah, too bad they won't afford it. :(

Or just the mace thing. And immunity from lawsuit if it's ever used.

Sadly, arming the teachers just puts them even deeper into the role of being the only disciplinarians the kids see. Poorly stated wasn't that?

My point is that we should make people responsible for their actions once more. Parents need to do their job. If they don't, they and their kids get punished in some meaningfull fashion that will help to engender change. No idea what that would be.

These brats aren't some mutation. They are the same basic product of human breeding that was around in better days. so what's changed? Society and family structure. It's not the kids fault that they're raised by TV.

Well, that's true. However, it seems to me that "one" is better than "zero" in this case.

We're in serious agreement, actually.
