Memorial Day Tribute
Generation upon generation have produced heroes who have given their all for America and for the good of the world. I pray for the fallen and their families. May i live my life so as to honor their sacrifice.
(i know this youtube is titled veterans day but the message is the same) A heartfelt THANK YOU....Kindest regards, Shell

As a veteran this is EXACTLY what I wanted to do this Memorial day....Work. Gotta love a car dealership that wants to cash in on a holiday such as this. I even had to gripe with the owner about the American flag this morning, which is STILL flying at full mast as I type this. What a disgrace.
Anyway, A thought filled Memorial day to all the veterans on this forum, and everywhere else. And a special thank you to all those currently serving. Today is a happy day as well as a sad one as my oldest daughter is shipping out today to head to Fort Jackson to begin her basic training for the Texas Army National Guard.

I missed some on my "pointless announcement" but I hope all the vets have a good day.
It's not necessarily a "happy veteran's day" wish, because memories aren't always happy. I hope y'all find some love and support today.

So...I'm at Omaha's Mermorial Park, representing my American Legion post at the ceremonies today, when some Amnesty International yahoo, dressed in a thrift store suit, tries to shout down the MC. About a half dozen Legion Riders (You know...the guys who stand between servicemen's funerals and those a-holes from Westboro Baptist Church?) physically pick him up and carry him off, kicking and screaming, up and over the hill behind a the WWII monument. The MC, a local news weatherman who is also a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, never misses a single beat. While it was funny watching the protection staff for Senator's Nelson and Johanns, Congressman Terry, Governor Heineman and Mayor Suttle scrambling around, yet doing nothing, while the Legion Riders took care of it. The funniest part was when the guy just suddenly, and very noticably, got quiet after they took him over the hill. The rest of the ceremony went off without a hitch.
So, in addition to my annual thanking of the veterans, I would also like to send a special thank you to all members of the American Legion Riders. Oh, and for those of you that may actually give a shit, the protestor is fine. I saw him as I was leaving, talking to mounted members of the Omaha Police. They were, as you may have guessed, decidedly unsympathetic to his complaints of the trampling of his constitutional rights.

Thank you UnclePhil for your service and to all those on this forum and those everywhere who served your country, your efforts for all of us Americans are not loss, not ever..... May all of our Memorial Day celebrations be filled with memories of our loved ones and blessings to each and every individual who gave and is giving of themselves in the name of freedom over tyranny.
My husband recently retired after 23 years of service, I am honored to be his wife and appreciate everyday, the life he invested in the care of our country, and still invests as a private contractor for the dod, and his daily efforts to further assist in thwarting terrorism. God Bless America.

For some wild 'n crazy reason I'm spending Memorial Day in a crackhouse-lookin' hotel room with a giant pile of guns as part of my attendance of a 3-day GI Joe class that takes places 8+ hours each day in an empty field in 90+ degree weather... instead of drinking beer, grilling out, and getting laid.
God bless America. |

Marine Corps vet here. I'll spruce up my profile tomorrow when I wake up, but one thing I've been seeing these past few years I hate is the way EVERY fucking holiday that has anything to do with the service (and some that don't) has become "9/11 Day". It's a goddamn shame and a bit of a dishonor to be memorializing the victims of 9/11 on the 4th of July, for example (just because it's the closest one coming to mind). Their loss has NOTHING to do with the fight for our country's freedom 200 and some-odd years ago. Save the 9/11 memorials for September.

just got this in an e-mail and thought it was funny enough to post/discuss/whatever...
(hey, it is my thread...) Military Rules by Service Marine Corps Rules: 1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one. 2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough. 3. Have a plan. 4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work. 5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet. 6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a '4.' 7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive. 8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral & diagonal preferred.) 9. Use cover and concealment as much as possible. 10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours. 11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose. 12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived. 13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot. Navy SEALS Rules: 1. Look very cool in sunglasses. 2. Kill every living thing within view. 3. Adjust speedo. 4. Check hair in mirror. US Army Rangers Rules: 1. Walk 50 miles wearing 75 pound rucksack while starving. 2. Locate individuals requiring killing. 3. Request permission via radio from 'Higher' to perform killing. 4. Curse bitterly when mission is aborted. 5. Walk out 50 miles wearing a 75 pound rucksack while starving. US Army Rules: 1. Curse bitterly when receiving operational order. 2. Make sure there is extra ammo and extra coffee. 3. Curse bitterly. 4. Curse bitterly. 5. Do not listen to 2nd LTs; it can get you killed. 6. Curse bitterly. US Air Force Rules: 1. Have a cocktail. 2. Adjust temperature on air-conditioner. 3. See what's on HBO. 4. Ask 'What is a gunfight?' 5. Request more funding from Congress with a 'killer' Power Point presentation. 6. Wine & dine ''key' Congressmen, invite DOD & defense industry executives. 7. Receive funding, set up new command and assemble assets. 8. Declare the assets 'strategic' and never deploy them operationally. 9. Hurry to make 13:45 tee-time. 10. Make sure the base is as far as possible from the conflict but close enough to have tax exemption. US Navy Rules: 1. Go to Sea. 2. Drink Coffee. 3. Deploy Marines

I'm a daughter of a veteran. Is it okay if I post here?
"US Air Force Rules: 1. Have a cocktail." While my father was attending officer training in Brownsville ,Texas -1957-58? He was amazed by the two fountains. A fountain of champagne & a fountain of Manhattans. They were well trained to drink like Manly grown up Frat bros. I remember the day my father sat us down for an important goodbye. He was heading for the alert-shacks during the Cuban Missile Crisis. My dad was a navigator & his best friend pilot was his Colonel. I was too young at that time to grasp the gravity of the political situation, but I'll never forget the grave look on my father's face, and my mother's silent trembling as the three of us sat on the rough-textured nubbly colorless sofa. The guys waiting for orders in the alert-shacks played numerous games of cribbage, to pass the time. Dad taught me how to play cribbage when I was eight. He was a good teacher. |

I sent the list in Phil's post to a Marine friend of mine he said "when in doubt, empty the magazine" should be added.
Also, asked a question: What do you feel when you kill the enemy? A little recoil.
