Well...well...well...
If this goes ahead, y'all should know that I actually have a brunch gig that day with the Klezmer band! I'm not sure when exactly we're playing, but I think it's at 11:00a.m. or 12:00 and we're on for about 3 hours. This place is supposed to have a really great brunch. It's pricey for the all-you-can-eat ($17.95) but I just called the place and it goes half-price at 2:30p.m. There's also other menu items for less (i.e. all-day breakfast $6.95). Freetimes Cafe is at 320 College St. (near Bathurst). Here's the link: Freetimes It'd be amazing to see you there. Of course if this doesn't work I'll find out when the gig ends and try to meet-up afterwards if there's still time.

Free Times is a good place. Never eaten there but the music is good. It's right at the top of Kensington Market and there are all kinds of places to eat in the area.

Peg me as definitely maybe. Being unemployed, I'm not sureI can scrape the cash together, but if I can I'll definitely be there.
I can't recommend any good places unless you guys come to the 'Shwa. Hell, for that matter, I can't recommend any if you do.

The last time I was in Oshawa, I was hard pressed to find a Tim Hortons! I will not be in attendance, but I hope you all don't get your ya-ya's out at this meeting, cause I will be passing through at the beginning of May and I'd hoped to see you all again.

there are plenty of ya-yas to go around.
I know where there are many Tim's in Oshawa... if not, I can tell you where they are in Whitby and Ajax.

I used to live one block away from the Free Times. They have wicked Latkes. Put me down for a maybe. I think Sunday is busy, but I wouldn't want to miss the Monkie or Aberkok's band!

There are actually a couple of good restaurants here too, if you know where to look. Nowhere I'd recommend for brunch, though. So, no. I'm not actually recommending anyone come to Oshawa. I don't even want to be here, I'm not about to suggest others come here, especially not amonkie. If we want her to come back I don't know that showing her the armpit of Ontario would be a good idea. While we're on the subject, is there anyone coming in from east, such as Whitby/Ajax/Pickering? I'm generally happy to do some carpooling. I think I'm going to see to it that I make it to this one. It's high time I prove to you all that I do, in fact, exist.

Hmm, a downtown meeting at 11 sounds a little too late for me. I have to be on a bus to casino niagra with my friends by 12 Bus meets at UTSC, and it takes me almost an hour from my place to get there.
So I guess you'll have to count me out on this one unfortunately. But the rest of you have fun And I love brunch And I love music I guess there's always next meeting.

It looks like Monkie will now be in town for Saturday as well.
Perhaps if some of you cannot make Sunday you could make dinner on Saturday?

I'd be very interested in dinner on Saturday. I'm actually entirely free that night! Monkie, I'm assuming you have a place to stay? If not, let me know.

I am crashing at Charlatan's place as far as I know at the moment .. gonna get to watch a Munchkin for a little while!
I read that the LOTR play Charlatan is seeing is 4.5 hours in addition to two intermissions - if that starts at 1:00p, most likely dinner would be a 7:30p or later affair in order to include Char, if that helps give anyone a time frame. I am open to any suggestions for Saturday - this is just my chance to kick back and hang out ... you are the ones that know the area best! I put my faith in you to not kill me

I don't care. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, take your pick and just tell me when and where.
And if someone needs a place to crash, there's a standing offer of my futon, as a point of note. It's a bit out of the way, but it's here if needed.

It looks like at least an evening meetup Saturday - 8:30 or 9p or so, would work best for everyone who has chimed in so far. Maybe Charlatan or someone else willing can come up with a suitable meeting place for this one? I really want to get my hands on an Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale - it came highly recommended.
For Sunday ... consenus says Free Time's to hear the groovings of Aberkok - 11:45a?

Granite Club!...Granite Club!....
I know it's not really central enough, but it would be worth going. Bow & Arrow would be good as well, but I think it's best if we go somewhere more central. Let's wait until we know who is coming. Who is in for Saturday night?

Big difference between the Granite Club and the Granite.
I was going to suggest Allan's or Dorah Keough on the Danforth as it is relatively central to Aberkok, me, Fresnelly, Leto (should he wish to pop in) and even Seige (to some extent). They are also easily accessed by the Subway for anyone else who didn't want to drive. Any thoughts?

I am doing the kid thing this weekend - which precludes TFP face-time
Will be sending cheery vibes out, and as I plan to be in TO with the lads Saturday night you just may feel an emanation of exhuberation. I'll miss you amonkie, and a fine evening of drinks and chat with the TO group will be a very sad thing to put in the not-happening pile

So unless anyone says different we are meeting at the following times:
SATURDAY, MARCH 4TH -- 8:00pm Dora Keogh - 141 Danforth Ave. (just East of Broadview on The Danforth) (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...06751,0.018003) SUNDAY, MARCH 5TH -- 11:45 (ish) Free Times Cafe - 320 College Street (just West of Spadina) The brunch is supposed to be quite good, plus we will be accompanied by some excellent Klezmer featuring the stylings of Aberkok on piano - or maybe that mouth piano thingy he plays). (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...06753,0.018003) Additionally, if anyone wants to meet up with Monkie earlier on Sunday for some Toronto wandering or anything like that just send her a PM. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again.

Saturday sounds good. Forgive my lack of knowledge to get around in my own city, but for me to get there, I get off at Broadview station and walk a bit east?

cellophanedeity - If you need a chauffeur, I'd be more than happy to fill the role. My car is available to anyone who wants/needs a ride, so long as it's not too far out of my way (ie, GTA is pretty much okay but I'm not going to Barrie, so don't ask).
Alternately, if my vehicle is non essential, I may take the train in. Is there anyone who could meet me at Union so I don't get lost in the Big T?

Let me be the first to say what a great time I had on Saturday night. I got swallowed up by a work-hole on Sunday, so I missed out on Brunch, but maybe that would have been guilding the lily.

Mind you, I don't know how you could hear a damn thing in that place. I think for the next meet-up we ought to choose somewhere a bit quieter.

The Group at Dora Keogh - below .. now remember, it was midnight, and the guy taking the pic for us was probably somewhat inebreiated, and you can see my HALO! And Aberkok's band at Free Times cafe (taken by sober me .. see the difference! )

It was a great time...
Good to see you all again (and Martian for the first time). It was a bit loud there; it isn't usually that nuts (I blame it on the science centre crowd). Brunch today was cool. Aberkok was the master of the melodica while Amonkie and I feasted on the excellent buffet. Apparently James T. Kirk made it to brunch but didn't know what we look like and didn't have any of our phone numbers (d'oh). Thanks again to Martian for making the long trip into Toronto to visit. "no more dead bodies!!"

I think next time I'll probably drive in. I thought the train would be the more expedient option, but that didn't exactly turn out to be the case. Anway, it was a lot of fun. It was good meeting some of you in person. My plans for the night had been basically to sit at home and do my homework and the whole affair only ended up costing about $25, which I think is more than reasonable for a night out in the big city. I would've liked to have made it to brunch too, but the interview went well so hopefully it was worth missing aberkok's mad melodica stylings for. I liked the pub, it was just really noisy. Fun fact : Our host/bouncer apparently went to school with Ali Stewart (Bono's wife). He said that he'd occasionally gone out drinking with Bono 'back home' and that their house cost six million euros. I was speaking with him (the host, not Bono) when I went outside. unclephil - it was actually quite a mild night, at least at the time that picture was taken. I didn't get in until shortly after 1 am and it was quite a bit colder by then. EDIT - And for those not in the know, the group photo above is Siege, aberkok, amonkie and Charlatan in the front row, with fresnelly and myself in the back. For some reason, my hair looks really red in that picture. It is red, but not fire engine red.
