I don't know about Canada..but here in Utah it's illegal to litter like that. Granted, if the cops chased down every litterer, they'd all be busy with that all day long....I don't know if I missed it, but did she just toss it back in the car, or throw it at him? If she just tossed it in the car, I don't see a problem with that. If she threw it at him...that's not cool.

If it was a woman, my wife would get out and beat you!). And despite the moral indignation going on around here over his actions, a lot of people would do the same thing if personally assaulted by a courier with a bag of garbage.

??? You're going to beat someone because they threw your trash back at you? People who little DESERVE to have the shit thrown back at them. That's what they get for being no-class littering assholes.

Yeah, if someone threw trash at me or my wife, I'd probably beat 'em. Throw anything at me or mine and I'll lay into them (or Mrs. Highthief would if it was a woman doing the throwing). I consider throwing trash at me personally assault. Throwing trash at my wife would be so far over the line I can't imagine the idiot that would do so.

I'll say it again, both parties here are assholes. I have little sympathy for either side, gender aside.

To use another analogy, would anyone think it was OK if you were talking in the movies, and someone came up, jammed their I-Pod in your ear, and turned the volume up to teach you a lesson? Is anyone just gonna laugh it off? Even though you weren't actually hurt, you aren't going to be happy about it.

That's not it. Not even close. A similar situation would be if the person next to you started talking all the way through the movie, just a little bit louder and more obnoxious than you were.

Get it straight. He threw trash on the street. She gave it back to him. He proceeded to assault her. She did NOTHING wrong. He was a complete and total dickhead about it. Was she stupid? Yes, but only because she should have known better and that people who litter are assholes and are more likely to commit assault.

Anyone who throws trash on the streets DESERVES to have it thrown back at them.

The fact that you can't see that she also did something wrong really means we have nothing to talk about.

Hah..

Actually I probably would do something really stupid if someone threw trash at me, but I hate littering so it wouldn't be my own trash :p

Charlatan 02-04-2006 07:57 AM

Highthief, I don't get the feeling you would have thrown trash out in the first place. Someone throwing random trash at my loved one's would get an earfull but if I was confronted after tossing my trash on the street, I'd probably feel a bit sheepish... that said, I'd still give them an earfull.

I'm not a violent person so, I find it unlikely that I would throw down over garbage, regardless of the target.

percy 02-04-2006 11:38 AM

Two wrongs don't make a right. I think both of them have attitude problems that should be adjusted.

Agreed. Someone randomly throwing trash into my vehicle would leave me heavily surprised, probably angry if it weren't just on the floor. But if I threw a bag out the window I'd expect to be called on it. I'd expect to generate reactions of hostility from other members of society. Nobody likes to be called on their "stupids", but if I were to become defensive about the reactions I invited - assuming they didn't cross into harmful territory - then it points to something much deeper than a littering problem.

This guy's a nutball or was already having his worst day of the decade.
