I'm sorry... I know it's terribly immature of me, but I just can't get past this line...
it did not break copyright law, insisting that the dispute is part of a Dick-orchestrated undefined "publicity stunt" to boost the film's profile. Anyway, on the surface at least, this sure looks like a great example of those in charge making rules that apply to everyone but them... Keep us informed!

Amusing. I'd like to know more about how exactly Dick orchestrated the MPAA making a copy to support the publicity stunt idea. I'll have to look for more info later but I expect it's something the MPAA said to distract people.
Their argument that it might invade the privacy of their movie raters is interesting and I'll also be very interested in seeing how it turns out since I'm very much in favor of a person's right to privacy.

the lesson of the day is...
consider taking legal action against hollywood studios and then copy their films for purposes of evidence. sounds like a reasonable defence to me.

So.... does the RIAA make copies of recordings without permission, or just sue people for doing so? This reeks of hypocrisy. I hope he nails 'em.
