Dancing Outlaw...no really, you should have a look.
I was surfing around my on demand menu and stumbled across a movie called "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia", I read the synopsis and it dawned on me that I'd heard of these people before. So I went searching, and sure enough they are the same folks from the cult documentary "Dancing Outlaw" I'd seen years ago.
Basically PBS was doing a documentary series in the late 80's early 90's called "Different Drummer" featuring unusual people and they had the misfortune of stumbling across second generation Appalachian folk dancing legend Jesco White. What follows is a bizarre, sad, horrifying and at times funny view of a poverty stricken family with an odd claim to fame (along with about a million other problems). I'd swear this was a Christopher Guest mockumentary if I didn't know better, you'd almost think it has to be scripted. Words really can't do it it justice and if you've never seen it you really should (its only 30 mins), its a cult classic for a reason. A Different Drummer - Mountain Tap Dancing
