crafted by Dave Sterling (built for the semi-finals of the MOColympics).
This full scale Lego NES reproduction is exactly like the original 80s console,
complete with video and audio connectors, gamepads with flexible cables
made out of solid pieces, pushable buttons, and a working front-loading
mechanism to insert the included Tetris cartridge.

The Lego Piano (complete & playable)

The entire process and configuration to this life-sized LEGO model
is detailed by the author himself, on his site, (below) and goes on
to provide great technical knowledge and kudos to those who
helped him along the way. It's a long, but great, read.

'safari' themed pentax optio NB1000

japanese imaging company pentax's optio NB1000 point and shoot camera has a front panel
which is covered in a lego-like piece compatible with nanoblocks (a construction block system
similar to lego) from japan's diablock. different sizes of these blocks can be attached to the face of
the camera so that you can personalize it with patterns, mini sculptures. the blocks also have more
than just an aesthetic appeal. they can be used to help capture your images - arrangement around
the lens can form frames for your pictures.

author's comments: (click-through any source link to view more details, angles, and commendations)
Abandoned houses offer unique opportunities from a visual point of view. The deterioration transforms materials. Texture on top of texture. New patterns overtaking old ones. Nature repossessing. This textural aspect to deterioration and the patterns that it creates can be rich and fascinating to look at.

I also find that the experience of seeing a deteriorated house (or any familiar object) interesting. When looking at the image we see a dual image of the house – one as it is, and one as it was. You see a huge hole in the side of the house not just as a hole, but also as an interruption of the known. And so the mind seeks to recreate the known. We fill in the holes. We project. Our eyes follow the angle of the broken awning to a point, now destroyed, and we can feel the mass that was of the front 3rd floor. The same with the porch covering. This visual duality – the mind flipping between destruction and pre-destruction – is magic. It's entertaining and engaging.

Brazil builds world's largest Lego tower - Telegraph [article ; video ; imagination]

excerpt:
Quote:

Nearly 6,000 Lego lovers in Sao Paulo, mostly children, helped put together the independent blocks of Lego bricks which were later stacked using a crane.

The tower was composed of 500,000 Lego pieces and reached 102 feet and 3 inches, breaking the previous record set in Chile last year.
It took four days to build and was held in place by wire supports to prevent it from toppling over in the wind.

The first Lego tower was built in London in 1988, since then Toronto, Moscow, Sydney, Tokyo and Munich have been among the cities which have held the title.

Designer Makes Lego-Style Helmet That Reads Comics to Kids | ComicsAlliance

excerpt:
Quote:

Inspired by the comics in old LEGO magazines, UK-based designer Jonathan Robson
has created an interactive comics-reading platform in the beloved LEGO idiom.
Called “Audio Comics,” Robson’s concept — which is not official — involves down-
loading a fully produced audiobook that’s then transferred onto a USB drive which
inserts into a helmet based on that worn by the classic LEGO figures. Children wear
the helmet, which has built-in speakers with which to listen to the audio file while
they read the corresponding comic book, which is received by mail.

Hidden behind the white face plates of this machine are racks of gears that make up a replica of one of the oldest known mechanical computers. This is a working model of the Antikythera mechanism made from Lego pieces. In the video, the machine is disassembled into its various components. Each mechanical unit takes advantage of gear ratio combinations to perform numerous levels of mathematical functions in order to display the date and time that future celestial events will occur.

Believed to date back to 100-150 BC, the stone bronze mechanism was recovered from a shipwreck around the turn of the twentieth century. The use of x-ray analysis helped to unlock the functions and confirm the theories of its operation.

Want more of the Antikythera mechanism? Check out the model built by Tatyana van Vark.
