author's comments: I had wanted to take a photo of my son standing on my hand just the way I had stood on my dad’s hand as a baby. My wife snapped the photo and we were amazed at how much I resembled my dad in pose in that 40 year time warp. I will note that although my dad was holding me up in the air outside along the side of a road, I was holding my son, Warren, over a soft bed! |
Perhaps I should have posted this in the photography / artwork forums? Who am I kidding? I'd have had less replies there than I do now (pauses __).
Moving on and back up... I came across this photo, which I'm sure relates and ties back into the website itself. http://i56.tinypic.com/vfilch.jpg |
Wow, what a super cool idea - it's incredible how little or how much some folks have changed...
|
I'm really glad you enjoyed it, NoSoup, as not only was the premise great, but some of the portrayals sent in by ordinary folk - it's just outstadning the amount of fun each and every one of them have etched on their faces to re-create an earlier monet in their own histories.
Here's one more to leave you with... http://i46.tinypic.com/2qvzciv.jpg http://i47.tinypic.com/k0pzzl.jpg attached along with a personal note: my father was career military and in the first photo he was stationed in germany. my parents have had this photo hanging on a wall in their den for years. we decided to recreate the photo and sneak the copy into the frame to see how long it would take for them to notice.[the sneak] |
Somehow these pics made me sad :( Time flows so fast

Just a question for you, Xerxys: what,s the above supposed to be about, really?
I can see the older/younger comparison alright, though, but the initial basis for this was the website itself, and childhood ties, and recreating a specific photograph's scenarion, taken by ordinary folks, so there is a sort of big disparate disconnect from what was intended to what you have come to feature now. It's a not knock, and I virtually appreciate any thought-out response to some of shares, but this one leaves me scratching my head, wondering if I left the concept's basis too nebulous, and you misunderstood or something. |

according to Melinda: As we got older, he was definitely the cool one of the bunch, Mr. Popular. I was always so proud to be able to tell everyone that he was my cousin. [zefrank.] |
Funny that this thread would pop back up as I just found this picture on my sister's Facebook page...

back to the future. - Niotillfem (click to expand) a photo project by Irina Werning, which is rightly reminiscent of the above site's aim. |

Flor in 1975 & 2010, Buenos Aires. follow-up: more from Irina Werning's latest series, BACK TO THE FUTURE : Irina Werning author's comments: I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future. |
Sorry no camera when I was hanging from my belt off a bridge over rapids. And that really is the perfect picture to represent my life.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: Cecile in 1987 & 2010, France. --Photo project by Irina Werning. |
My father and his three year older brother were photographed when my dad was one year old. My aunt's (dad's sister) two sons are three years apart as well, and she took a similarly set photo of her sons than what was taken of her brothers 40+ years earlier. Younger boy sitting in a small chair and older one kneeling beside the other.

Cool photos jetee but you can't post pictures of underage kids.
(unless that changed?) |
