It'd be better if I didn't feel so bad for the guy, the breakdown in the interview and all. Then reading that they tasered him for basically no reason at the game, where the guy who told them epic beard man was sitting in his seat was wrong. Don't know if it's true or not but it certainly makes it all less funny.

This guy...fucking awesome. DON'T FUCK WITH SENIOR CITIZENS, THEY'll SURPRISE YOU!

EBM has the best quotes, that interview where "my momma died my momma my momma died" he says some of the coolest shit I've ever heard.

+1

The idea of the "Internet meme" has indeed cheapened the idea of memes in general. I guess there is nothing you can do to stop the shifting meaning of words and concepts.

I'm prepared to call this sort of thing a fetishization or yet another bit of Internet-manifested hyperreality. But a meme? I think that's a stretch, just like most other things labeled as such. But I guess calling things "hyperreality" isn't as quaint as calling it a "meme."

That said, I must admit I was unable to look away. It was like some kind of grotesque novelty that had me staring---enthralled even.

Damn man it's an internet vid of a crazy old white guy kicking a stupid black guy's ass. I personally never even heard the word "meme" until about a month ago. I just watch awesome videos on Youtube. Nothing more, nothing less.

Mmmmm...I don't think so. It's still pretty damn funny. Although it does make it sadder at the same time. Maybe, given all of the attention, he can get help?

The absolute funniest part, though, is that the woman filming all of this, also caught herself trying to steal the old guy's stuff, after he exited the bus. Any follow up on that? Anyone know?

I also get a kick out of the fact that the girl in the purple tights, known as "Amber Lamps", is now famous for just sitting there and trying to mind her own business. There was a quote once (and a quick search did not reveal it) that goes something to the effect of:
"I was not born to greatness. Nor, was I thrust into it. I was dragged into it, kicking and screaming."

I'm really not digging the "hey, let's make fun of the uneducated black people who can't pronounce the Queen's English properly" vibe I'm getting from this meme.

It is sad, no doubt. On several levels. I find it extremely interesting however that Epic Beard Man and all the various others have achieved semi-legendary status on the internet to various degrees. Story aside, this is really a great study on how a normal everyday event can explode over the internet and become bigger than it really is.

10 years ago, it would have been forgotten within the hour by all except a few. Never known to anyone else. Sure there's humor. And just like everything else, it becomes less humorous the closer we each get to the individuals and as they relate their story. The internet is creating its own entertainment. If it could be monetized, the value would be phenomenal.

The black guy tried to explain himself in that radio interview afterwards. What a dumbass, it's obvious he's trying to make himself look better after making himself look like a fool. He should have just sat there and shut the fuck up. "I needed to stand up against racism." Sure you're not, the guy is like 70 years old, you ain't changing shit with him.

I don't undertsnad how people got Amber Lamps out of his pronounciation of ambulance. Sounds more like "am-buh-lance". All well.

I'm digging it a whole lot. If it was a white guy who did the same thing it would be just as funny. It's just like making fun of a country accent, New York accent, or any other accent. That's the way he talks, along with many others. It just doesn't matter enough for me to care.

I don't know, when this came out it was accompanied by a massive amount of racism. I'm not surprised, because of the nature of the birthplace of the meme. I wasn't amused then, and I'm surprised this spread out to the rest of the internet. It's just two assholes fighting.
Nice work collecting everything though.
