Get the hits/traffic up because people hotlink to it, then sell the domain to a company that wants to make ad-traffic revenue off of it?
Or could because cause it annoys people not knowing WHY it's there.

Creepy. Reminds me of what Sci-Fi broadcast before they actually started running shows & such... anyone else remember that? It was like the starfield screensaver, with this voiceover saying "we're coming for YOU, John Brown." I'd watch for hours, half-afraid that my name would be mentioned. It never was.
So, yeah. Maybe it's just a placeholder until they get a cool site up and running.

Ahh, Zombo.com . I remember that.
The whole thing was (presumably) created as a parody. It's been around for at least 9 years now. The best explanation of it I've come across is that it's intended as a parody of the late-nineties dot com bubble, when people truly did seem to believe that the internet was the best vehicle for pretty much everything. It's a bit outdated now, and I'm frankly surprised that it still exists. My friends and I all thought it was hilarious, back when we first found it. As for bandwidth, the whole site consists of a 7KB flash animation, and I can't imagine it's getting a ton of hits these days. My guess is that whoever created it is hosting it on the same server as some legitimate/profitable content, and just never bothered to take it down.
