Get the hits/traffic up because people hotlink to it, then sell the domain to a company that wants to make ad-traffic revenue off of it?

Or could because cause it annoys people not knowing WHY it's there.

Creepy. Reminds me of what Sci-Fi broadcast before they actually started running shows & such... anyone else remember that? It was like the starfield screensaver, with this voiceover saying "we're coming for YOU, John Brown." I'd watch for hours, half-afraid that my name would be mentioned. It never was.

So, yeah. Maybe it's just a placeholder until they get a cool site up and running.

Ahh, Zombo.com . I remember that.

The whole thing was (presumably) created as a parody. It's been around for at least 9 years now. The best explanation of it I've come across is that it's intended as a parody of the late-nineties dot com bubble, when people truly did seem to believe that the internet was the best vehicle for pretty much everything.

It's a bit outdated now, and I'm frankly surprised that it still exists. My friends and I all thought it was hilarious, back when we first found it.

As for bandwidth, the whole site consists of a 7KB flash animation, and I can't imagine it's getting a ton of hits these days. My guess is that whoever created it is hosting it on the same server as some legitimate/profitable content, and just never bothered to take it down.

hosting isn't exactly expensive, contrary to what some webmasters would have you believe. they simply just choose the most expensive route for l33t status at times, even when it's entirely unnecessary.

According to this site, Zombocom has existed unchanged since 1999.

That makes me wanna punch babies and kick puppies.
