great blogs.
I know blogs have been around forever. I've even had a couple, lol! But recently I have been discovering so many great ones, I thought I would compile a little directory here. Most of these blogs are dedicated to various types of imagery...because I am an image fetishist, heh. But there are others dedicated to the subjects of cooking, music and sex.
Please feel free to share your own favorite blogs on this thread, too. I'm always excited to make new finds. :) Art & Illustration The Cabinet of the Solar Plexus Art Blog: An Art Work a Day Enoch Bolles Illustration Art Art Inconnu The Pictorial Arts Art Deco Women in the Bible Magazines, comics, books and all things ephemera ephemera assemblyman (my absolute favorite - incredible collection of ephemera) Electric Cabinet A Journey Round My Skull French Book Covers LP Cover Lover Darwination Scans Comically Vintage Pop Sensation Vintage Scans*** Classic Hollywood Living On Velvet Give Me the Good Old Days Starlet Showcase Fashion My Vintage Vogue The Flapper Girl Frou Frou Fashionista Photography bighappyfunhouse (found photographs) monkeyabout susi.a If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger, There'd Be a Whole Lot of Dead Copycats Shorpy Cooking The Black Oven(this blog seems to have been abandoned - which is an interesting phenomenon in itself - but there are some great dessert recipes here) Homesick Texan smitten kitchen (never actually considered cooking anything I've seen on this site, but the photos are fun) Music *** Mudd Up! Connections!!! |
I've been compiling quite an impressive bloglisting of my own over these new years' days of downtime.
I'll be coy to say I have acquired two dozen new subscriptions to some keen blogs, but I have still have heaps left in my notes that I've only ever visited once, or perhaps, only use for one article in particular. Once I get organized, I'll be sure to make a mental reminder to share it here. I'd say I may already have enough, but giving a good look doesn't hurt none (much more than my time). Thanks, MM. Oh, and to note: bighappyfunhouse • found photos. free pie. What a tease. There's no bunnies to be found here at all. (maybe you meant to post another link?) |

This one belongs to a friend. Every few months we meet at the local Irish Pub for Guinness and grub.
His blog is about culture, literature, history, and other observations: Roger Boylan. Explore the site. |

This is my friend's site. She is a photographer. One of her projects is collecting old, found photos and slides.
Not My Father's Slides |
Alright, this'll be my first update; all of the blogs solely in my RSS, which I've subscribed to since Jan.01 of this new year, on account of Shani telling me the wonders of Google Reader. (still haven't learned how to "automatically share new posts", and I have nearly a thousand unread posts, so it'll be a busy Saturday trying to take a good bit of that number down)
E Deus criou a Mulher - my first, favorite, and most longstanding blog. It's decandent female beauty (even if the author writes all the entries in Portuguese). Oh Snaps Carlos - Some guy named Carlos shares his "snaps" The Selvedge Yard - I must've subscribed to this one for a reason. Click to capture your curiousity. Feaverish Photography - An awesome little featurette of a blog, in which the author rountinely discovers and displays new international artists and their work Do it for the fame. - from the title of it, I'm guessing a Fashion-centric sort of offering, with graphic design a prominent companion. Inspiration for artists from Wildfox Couture - I LOVE WILDFOX! - I had to look this one up. Looks like another too-perfect-to-be-true fashion couture sort of deal. GoodShit - The best random bits of web news, enticements, and featured distractions. GreyHandGang™ Blog - Random intrigue. "A collection of things we like, curated by Colin P. Kelly." the LUNCHBOX - Your daily dose of photography, music and fashion - photography through the eyes of musicians and animation artists the Percy Trout hour - vintage anything, through the eyes of a once-glazed teen now radio talk host. SHOTSPOT - The absolute best of visual stimulation (photography, architecture, design, books, etc.) you can get in one day. THIS IS your daily dose. Vintage Girlie Mags - vintage girly mags. It's in the title. European stuff, too. Once I get better organized, I'm sure I'll have more in store for your pleasures galore. Until that future time, the above should suffice. |
Jetee, The Selvedge Yard is in my bookmarks...it is awesome.
Thank you! |
Thanks to all of you. I'm exploring and still have lots more to see.

Charlatan, I really like your friend's site. I love old snapshots. RB, the writing on Edible Geography reminds me (a little)of your writing...very nice. |

(They have a good selection of spacemen; that's what originally led me to them) |
wow, Sion, thanks!
excellent! |
Here's one of my favorite ones:
Zen Habits ? Simple Productivity |
I added a few more to the list. Thanks to Jetee's thread about lists, I remembered that I had started this.
If it's ok with everyone, I am going to take the suggestions offered by other folks and add them to the master list (credited, of course). I added a music section with a lot of my favorite music blogs...many of them are focused on African music of the 50's-80's, 'cause it's an interest of mine, but they make great introductions to the music, if you're interested in that sort of thing. :-) |
I really enjoy reading the foodie blogs and sometimes I make stuff.
Tami H. cracks me up and she makes awesome food. A lot of times when I'm updating my own blog, I'll just randomly hit "next blog" and see what happens. Sometimes I'll find new things. Running with Tweezers Green Kitchen Stories Steamy Kitchen Winos and Foodies Mele Cotte Just Bento |
In no particular order, here are a few that I read...
Pharyngula - Evolutionary biologist and outspoken atheist, PZ Myers, discusses atheism, science, politics, and more. Why Evolution is True - Jerry Coyne, another atheist evolutionary biologist, writes about... atheism, science, and politics. This blog is more science-heavy than Pharyngula. Food Politics - Exactly what it sounds like. A blog about the politics of food. Hardcore Zen - Zen priest, author, and punk rocker Brad Warner writes about Zen Buddhism and other stuff. Becoming Jennie - Former porn star, Jennie Ketcham (Penny Flame) chronicles her journey as she learns to make real emotional connections with the human beings around her. Unlike other former porn stars who leave the business to deal with personal issues, Jennie does not blame porn on her troubles in any way. High on Sex - Sex stuff. Eros Blog - More sex stuff. Whatever - Author John Scalzi writes about... well, lots of things. Sci-fi/geek stuff mostly. |
5 in a row
Interesting photography site dealing with the idea of 5 things in a row. Any 5 things. BibliOdyssey Amazing, beautiful scans from old books! Great inspirational site! Smashing Magazine The blog for graphic designers/illustrators/web designers |
