The Definitive Review of Phantom Menace
This review is LONG. Spans 7 YouTube videos, but it's damn worth it.

I watched this a few days ago and once you get used to his delivery, it's really quite well done.
I disagree with his opinions on the fight choreography and light sabre use but his main points about the lack of character depth and a clear story arc are bang on. I remember watching TPM in the theatre and cringing my way through Jar Jar and the gratuitous underwater scenes and the midichloreans and so on, but gamely holding on to my hopes that I would eventually be pulled into the story. And then there was the battle between the Gungans and the droids on bright green rolling hills under a bright blue sky and I was reminded of the default Windows XP desktop background. It occured to me that I was watching a screen saver and that was the end of it; just like that. I watched the other two with diminishing interest and now have zero expectations for any future chapters of the franchise. What a disappointment.

Hopefully Lucas will choke to death on a light saber hilt before they ever consider giving him free reign over anything that at one point I loved. I am reminded of the south park episode where he is taking part in raping Indiana Jones. That image plays out in my head when I watch the SW prequels, and instead of Indiana Jones, he is skull fucking Darth Vader's helmet while he is forcefully french kissing a struggling Carrie Fisher. It makes me angry, which makes me hate him, which makes me want him to suffer.

His ultimate point in his closing is damned good. Lucas wasn't really presented with people that were willing to question his decisions, so the bad ones came right through with the good ones. One of those mistakes was the lack of character depth for sure. Another was the dialogue.
