Those are sweet pictures. Love some of the angles.
Especially this one: http://media.kladblog.com/media/200909/911/19.jpg Like an urban avalanche. |
Holy crap, I wonder why I have never seen any of those pictures before now.
These really highlight just how much damage took place. |

Wow just looking at those photos gives me chills. Thinking of how many people died that day. I still remember that morning. I just got up to go to school and it was right after the first plain hit. The news was on and it was live with a reporter talking about what could have happened. Was it cloudy, did something mechanically went wrong. Then the other plain came into sight and the reporter stopped talking. I screamed for my mom and she did not believe me. She thought they where showing the first plain hit. To think I just watched so many people die. It is so tragic. :expressionless:

It is normal for humans to forget about how painful things are, and I feel 9/11 is very much the same.
I live in Lower NYC, I recall the thousands of people who walked through the community covered in dust, everyone was the same color, the color of dust. A local volunteer ambulance company had their ambulance parked right outside the world trade center only to have it destroyed. The other ambulances all went down, they all went down to help, you could see hundreds of sirens coming through the city downtown. Finally military vehicles came in, national guard came and locked down us down I could not leave my home go anywhere for 2 weeks. The block around the corner is named for a firefighter who passed away, I can talk about a dozen neighbors who had someone pass away there that day. I had a neighbor who witnessed it all, came back covered in dust soot, who for several years just stared at the tv, and only with years of therapy did he come out of his shell. I think it is important we must not forget the true horror of that day. |
all of that above me being said, I cannot tell you how glad i am that they photoshopped out the the people jumping. i can't handle that any more.

Hmm is it wrong for me to use some of those as my desktop background....?

I suppose it's a blessing that the wind carried most of the smoke out over the water rather than uptown.

I too searched for some photos yesterday. These hit me: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/423...ane2crash2.jpg http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/7893/us911101.jpg http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/1788/planetower2.jpg http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4241/planetower2a.jpg I was in the deepest depression of my life before 9/11. I was at home going through withdrawals getting ready to be admitted for cocaine addiction and depression. My Father called me and woke me up - told me to turn on the tv and then just hung up. It's strange, because for me 9/11 didn't 'sink in' until much later. Way after rehab. Years later. |

We probably have seen these pictures before. In the aftermath of that day the media was saturated with pictures and videos. After a while it all kind of blended together. And you're left with that horrible feeling of the enormity of the event. I will never forget. |
This photo gives me the chills..

I can't help but wonder if people were running down stairs, or if they were glued to the opposite end of the building or if they just stood there, watching the plane headed straight for them.

Most of the people who were below the impact site got out ok, thanks in large part to the FDNY and NYPD. None of us who were adults, or adult-ish, at least, will ever forget that day. It's one of maybe 2 or 3 times in your life that you'll never forget where you were when you heard the news. For a lot of Americans today, it was the second moment like that; the JFK assassination was the first.
For my part, I can never forgive those who celebrated on that day. CNN made it clear that there are friends, and there are enemies. |
