Luke Skywalker on a Tauntaun Costume

Star Wars fans have always dressed up in robes and adorned face paint to look like Jedi’s and Sith but this wasn’t enough for Scott Holden, for he wanted to go over the top and make himself an action Tauntaun costume.

For those who do not know what Tauntauns are, here is some Star Wars 101. Tauntauns are beasts of burden and transport on the planet Hoth in the world of Star Wars. They featured in Empire Strikes Back as the mode of transport for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

Scott made this amazing costume from scratch. Using designs made in Solidworks, he started to outline the Tauntaun. The head mold was detailed using clay, then a mold was made , then it was cast, and on and on. The horns were made in almost the same manner. Tedious process some say; I say it was passion for what he was doing.

The entire process for the costume's creation is outlined here: Scott Holden's Tauntaun Costume

A sampling of the head-turning Vader Project art exhibit.

Taking a Tour of The Vader Project The Official Star Wars Blog

The Vader Project at C4 - a set on Flickr

.............

"Waaaay up near the top of the tower of the Washington National Cathedral, there is a carved grotesque (a structural element to deflect rainwater from the building, similar to a gargoyle) shaped like … Darth Vader!

How did the Star Wars villain get there? Turns out in the 1980s, the Cathedral sponsored a sculpture design competition for children. Four winning designs were chosen: a raccoon, a girl with pigtails and braces, a man with large teeth and an umbrella, and lastly, Darth Vader.

If you must know, the Darth sculpture was proposed by Christopher Rader of Kearney, Nebraska."

I'm so slow and forgetful, it's become worrisome.

Alright, here is the rest of the galactic shoe collection: Star Wars by Adidas | It's Hyssop Lounge

The collection for the first season is split into three packs — The Characters Pack, the Vehicles Pack and the Direct Pack. The products in each pack take inspiration from the respective aspect of the Star Wars lexicon from legendary characters and crafts to classic scenes and fuse them with iconic adidas Originals silhouettes. The pieces will begin to hit all adidas Originals stores and other select retailers in January. Also, look out for a very special web application announcing the adidas and Star Wars collaboration which will hit the internet within the next couple of weeks. Below is an overview of the products within each pack.

Star Wars: Retold (by someone who hasn't seen it)

{It was also featured by Fremen in this thread}

scenario:
"My friend Amanda had never seen a whole Star Wars film. When I asked
her if she wanted to watch the original trilogy she said that she would, but
that she already knew what happens. So I took out my voice recorder and
asked her to start from the top."

Shogun Vader, the Ultimate Cardboard Cosplay - Los Angeles Art - Style Council

For those who look down upon the idea of using cardboard in your cosplay, we suggest checking out this ridiculously cool Shogun Vader design created by Alexander Lam. We first met Lam at Tune in Tokyo's New Year's Eve party and then bumped into him poolside at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott during Anime L.A. last weekend. He's a member of L.A. Jedi, a non-profit performance group that teaches people how to properly engage in lightsaber tricks and makes appearances at various children's hospitals. You might have seen the group on BoingBoing TV a while back.

Lam conceived Shogun Vader back in 2007 after reading about the samurai influence on Ralph McQuarrie's conceptual designs for Star Wars. He chose the name because Shogun means "general." In the few years since he began working on Shogun Vader, Lam has gone through three costume designs and is currently working on a fourth.

From the TD-2243 (Tours of Duty) set, by RockForceOne

Hayden Panettiere, star of NBC's hit show 'Heroes', (more than two years ago, so that's why 'Heroes' is still considered a "hit")
and Star Wars figure (TD-2243), appear at Big Apple Comic Book, Toy, Art and Sci-Fi Expo at the Penn Plaza Pavillion, New York City.

That's our future fashion, wouldn't you know it? (or at least, that is how it was portrayed since 1955 up until 1992)

Also, thanks for bumping this, as I just uncovered the commercial spot to the Adidas Originals 2010 Star Wars Collection a few minutes ago:

(If you'd like to make a game of it, first person to name all the celebrities in the spot wins something, good eyesight award or another. I'll figure it out.)
