Quick heads up- several members are following this thread at work. I've made one NSFW image into a link. You can still view the photo, just have to follow a link to get to it. Since people are interested in following this at work could we please keep this thread SFW?

To meander and muse on my fortuitous randomness:
I have no idea how I just "happen" to find these gems. It's just like on Wikipedia; I click a link that leads me to yet another link that is present on a page leading to another thread that mentions a blog owned by whichever website, and voila!

I come up with a picture like this: (it's got to be a recent shot)

It looks as though the entire board and all pieces are made up of legos, solely.

Can you confirm this, kramus?

All I got from the site that had the pic is . . .

"A New Hope Lego Chess set. It was built in April and May of 2009 and debuted at Star Wars Days at Legoland California."

These stormtroopers missed their ride

I have a whole bunch more of the "Stormtroopers Hot-Air Balloon Team", from the annual festival in Albuquerque. Wonderful to say, they were not the most interesting outfit of the entire gathering. not even close, but it was still fun to see.

These are great... just curious. What about these is counter culture?

Should the title of this thread be Star Wars Culture?

Just asking.

I debated that on the onset, but thinking about it more and more, it seemed right.

Star Wars, and all the characters, universe, jargon, and influence, has undoubtedly spread to nearly all facets of cultural identity that make up what it means to be a spectator and participant of it recurringly, even now, more than 30 years since its debut. From the nerds to the cool people, everyone can identify with the series.

But... as I just recently had the misfortune to find out, all members of The Today Show dressed up in a Star Wars motif, I think, a week ago. It was horrible.

Maybe outside this thread it's a Star-Wars Faux Culture, trying too hard to make it fit, but with my aim, I'm merely fidning & sharing the most obscure and really, the best interesting pictures that just happen to include a Stormtrooper or two.

post-1945 "Peace"

The Japanese V-Sign
A Historical Perspective

dannychoo_vsign.jpg
"V for Imperial (Vader)Victory"

So why exactly do most Japanese folk do the V-sign when having their photos taken? According to Wikipedia, the earliest confirmed usage of the V-sign was by Winston Churchil during World War II - the V-sign meaning "Victory." The Japanese Wikipedia for the entry Peace Sign however says that there is a theory that the two fingers mean that two nuclear bombs where dropped on Japan meaning that peace is near...

During the 1972 Winter Olympics in Japan, skater Janet Lynn (who was also a peace activist) was photographed by the Japanese media doing the V-sign. Although the V-sign was already recognized in Japan, it was apparently these photos of Lynn that popularized the use of the V-sign.

The Japanese entry in Wikipedia does not mention Lynn at all and instead says that the V-sign took off in the 80's when usage of the V-sign was used when kids were having their photos taken.
