Cosplay events

Cosplay...or for those that adhere to new two-combo'd Japanese terms, costume roleplay. (I had to look this up, since my original thought in mind was incorrect)

"Cosplay participants ("cosplayers") form a subculture centered around wearing their costumes and reenacting scenes or inventing likely behavior inspired by their chosen sources. In some circles, the term cosplay has been broadened to include simply wearing a costume, without special consideration given to enacting characters in a performance context."

So for those intrigued, share some of the better or more hilarious portrayals you have found randomly.

Now, I haven't watched more than two episodes of the anime from which this idea stemmed (and I'd probably get the title of it wrong without looking it up), but this girl "Rei" looks like a good-enough real-life doppelgänger for the Japanese cartoon character.

---------- Post added at 08:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 PM ----------

Well, it took awhile, but after sifting through an inordinate amount of hentai and PVC figurines, I found an illustration; she is supposed to be comparable to this character, I guess.

It's a big thing in the Anime world. I know people who spend months working on costumes for conventions. They work in groups sometimes to do whole character sets from shows. They have props and everything.

I once got convinced to cosplay because my ex wanted me to match her... she was really hot.

Some of the costumes people make are fucking crazy. I saw three girls who cosplayed some anime and made huge boxes that looked like the boxes for action figures. When they stood in them it looked like life-sized dolls.

Honestly, I'm surrounded by lovely nerd people that cosplay for cons all the time. My brother's ladyfriend has gone every year since she was in middle school.

I'm seriously considering going as "White" from Tekkon Kinkreet.

That's a really interesting idea. But then again, outside of the conference and media event, it is just a group of fanatics walking around in boxes.

Speaking of life-sized dolls, I just found this five minutes ago:

I think it can be super hot, and nerd girls are generally brilliant in bed.

Yuna from Final Fantasy

Tifa from Final Fantasy 7

And I have no idea who this is supposed to be, but SEXY.

It's an interesting way of playing, but I wonder if it might encourage people to cross the border between fandom and fanaticism.

Then again, they can be quite fun to look at, therefore this thread needs more pics.

Kallen from Code Geass:

Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell:

Rei Ayanami from Evangelion:

Wow, Will, you are making me feel as though I need to do more research. I didn't know any of the characters you posted, and I barely knew of the ones I, myself, posted. I just see the similarities, and go from there.

But, you reminded me why I originally opened up this compendium: For the reason and next best excuse to feature Wonder Woman, portrayed by Olivia Munn.

I think this was from ComicCon this past week(end):

Actually, I'm not really much of an anime fan considering I live in the SF Bay area. I know next to nothing compared to most people I know.

Code Geass is arguably the best anime series in the last few years and is available online in it's entirety (2 seasons) here.

Ghost in the Shell is my personal favorite series (and two great films, of course). I'm not sure if it's available streaming online, but I suspect it is somewhere.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is widely considered to be the most successful anime series of all time, though the last few episodes are really quite confusing. The series is also online, here.

Thanks for the links. I think I want to get into Outlaw Star and SD Gundam before anything else, but I'll check out the recommendations when I get the chance.

Is this true?

I think the character below has the name of "Riku", or "Rukia"... I believe it's the second, though I'm not sure.

I, for one, really hope it's true.

And you're right, it's Kuchiki Rukia from Bleach. Link.

I was very much inclined to agree with you, hence why this post came to fruition; but... I found some other pics to go along with the theme here, and wow, no body plays a blonde better than a Cali-girl.

Theme: Samus Aran (from Metroid, SSB series)

Army men

''... For many American boys, playing with army men and exploding them with fireworks is like a rite of passage. This cultural phenomenon was represented in Army Men, a popular series of computer games introduced by 3DO in the 1990s. Green army men that came to life like the other toys in the movie were also among the characters in the 1995 Disney movie, Toy Story. Gummy army men candy are also available.

Because these toys are readily available and affordable, they encourage a variety of creative types of play. As such, they can be set up in many different ways. They are especially well suited for the sandbox, or simple wargames with rubber balls or marbles, which can be rolled or thrown at army men.
