Whether you feel it was torture or not, the guy was asked to give a very narrowly defined legal opinon and he did so. If you disagree with his decision, fine, but hang the guy?

Academics shouldn't be punished for their mere opinion.

Individuals who ACT upon those opinions should be the ones who feel the reckoning.

We've hung plenty of people before who were 'just following orders', or doing what they thought was the popular thing to do and not the right thing.

And yes, we do need more comedy. I think we need to have an Australian, British, and European TV channel to offset the 700 Club TV channel. Well, at least I can download TV shows over the internet, but I'm not sure how many other Americans know about these guys. Well, we did hear about them when Bush visited Sydney and they dressed up as the Canadians.
