http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...7_201214-1.jpg God Plays Through ; PHOTOGRAPHY by Gene Lower ; winner of the SDX 2001 Awards, Category "Sports Photography" BIOGRAPHY: Gene Lower is an award winning freelance photographer based in Phoenix, Arizona. Photographic coverage ranges from sports, events, portraits, weddings and scenics. His photos have appeared in major international magazines such as Sports Illustrated and Time, as well as top-notch newspapers including the New York Times, LA Times, and London Sunday Times. Lower's philosophy is to capture the essence and personality of his subjects while portraying them in a unique way. He provides a comfortable environment allowing every client to relax and feel at ease in front of the camera. Lower takes an easygoing, laid-back approach so that he can get to know his subjects and their objectives for the photographs — while at the same doing whatever it takes to get the shot — passively aggressive. -- via Sports Illustrated HotShots (c. 2004), Slingshot Photography, IconicPhotos.com, and The Society of Professional Journalists |

Too close for comfort! by Teresa L James author's notes: I thought it would be cool to take a photo of lightening so I had the shutter open for 30 seconds. I was out on my back porch when the lightening struck soooo close ...needless to say I jumped...therefore the poles moved in the photo..I don't think I'll do this again unless the storm is a loooong way away! geo-date notes: Taken on August 11, 2009 ; Taken in Vici, Oklahoma |
Those are great, but I've been inside two places that were struck. Talk about scary...

Thunderstruck Thessaloniki!!!!!!!!! (Greece) by Manolis Thr. author's comments: A major thunderstorm hit tonight Thessaloniki!! After the heat and the humidity we had all day, just after the sunset, a multicell began to form west of Thessaloniki. I prepared my camera and head for the sea-side walk of the city where it is a nice place to catch some lightnings! This storm was extreme... Torrential rain, severe winds, and an enormous frequency of lightnings hit the city with the result of many flooded roads and buildings, total blackout all over central north Greece (central Macedonia) after one bolt that hit the central power station and many many car and shop alarms started to shout! Of course all the people were scared and they were trying to find a shelter.. |

TOTALLY UNEXPECTED Photo by: idzrvit author's comments: Well I started my night at Leavenworth, Kansas around 830pm. The clouds were incredible! I had to shoot them with a higher iso and only a couple second shutter so they would not blur. I stopped at four other spots, staying ahead of the storm the whole time. My last stop was here in Lenexa. I thought it would be cool if I got a strike with this excavator. The strikes were few and far between but I decided to go for it anyway. Then out of nowhere comes this strike! The only one I took from this spot! See the shorter strike in the middle from the cloud to ground? THAT is what I was shooting for! That height! {Shot with a Nikon d90 on Tuesday September 21, 2010 in Lenexa, KS.} |
