Sir Mix-a-Lot's Burger King commercial

I found this hilarious...

Is the Sir Mix-a-Lot Burger King commercial too much for kids?

Burger King is selling kids' meals with a SpongeBob related remix of Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back." In the latest commercial from their bizarre ad campaign, the King sings about his love for square butts, and his desire to "get with" SpongeBob while ladies shake their booties.

Here's the kicker: the ad was made in partnership with the children's television station, Nickelodeon.

Susan Linn, the director of the Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood said: "It's bad enough when companies use a beloved media character like SpongeBob to promote junk food to children, but it's utterly reprehensible when that character simultaneously promotes objectified, sexualized images of women."

Update: The Campaign for Commercial Free-Childhood has launched a letter-writing campaign against the ad, encouraging parents to ask Burger King and Nickelodeon to pull the ad. Both companies say the ad is targeted at adults. Seriously?

After seeing the original "Baby Got Back" video nearly 100 times in our lifetimes and now viewing it as more campy than objectifying, we were a little numb and then confused upon first hearing the jingle. Square butts? This is insane! What are they talking about?! But bringing SpongeBob into the ad definitely makes it appear that it's trying to get then attention of kids.

Take a look at the BK ad, and tell us: Would you want your kids seeing this commercial?

We watch an awful lot of Nickelodeon in my household. The main watcher is my 9-year-old daughter; often, with her dad at her side. (Our favorite shows include Avatar: The Last Airbender, iCarly, Drake & Josh, and, yes, SpongeBob SquarePants.) And I'm curious to see what her reaction will be to this commercial (which I've yet to see on Nickelodeon, itself).

I would consider this innapropriate for young children. I find it interesting that most of the people defending this on the youtube comments say things like 'well, kids see this kind of stuff on MTV all the time!' My kids don't. OTOH, they don't watch TV (except movies on occasion) at all, so...
