Because as we all know that is the only alternative to engaging in needless wars...

Meh. The majority of those dirty fucking hippies eventually put aside their protest signs, their peace symbols, their tie-dye shirts, their marijuana and their LSD (well, maybe not their marijuana), and went on to get white collar jobs and become part of The Establishment.

izzzzy 03-19-2009 06:11 AM

makes you wonder what could have been.

fight in a war, then you can make your own decision, rather than what the media tells you

gardens 03-19-2009 04:10 PM

Am I the only one who noticed how the Peace Sign at 1:07 is only WHITE hands and that one of the hands appears to have a replica of a Marijuana leaf on it

JumpinJesus 03-19-2009 04:30 PM

Wow, I didn't realize hippies were so polarizing.

Dab a little patchouli, man. Dab a little patchouli.

Because the only way to know if a war is justified is by being a soldier, right?

G5_Todd 03-19-2009 06:28 PM

a needless war, unjustified or both...what ever your opinion is...its your opinion...just like I have my own from actually being there and seeing how justified it is....

KirStang 03-19-2009 06:38 PM

Because you know the way to stop Mutually Assured Destruction was to just hug it out. Just hug it out man.

Baraka_Guru 03-19-2009 06:53 PM

This thread is getting HI-larious.

You talk as if all we have are opinions. Whether or not a war is justified is more than a matter of opinion. It is a matter of determining if the justifications are a- acceptable and b- truthful.

In both Vietnam and Iraq we know that justifications were either unacceptable or untrue.

A view from a soldier on the ground doesnt change these things. A view from the ground doesnt make the "domino theory" any more right, doesnt make the government of South Vietnam any more democratic, doesnt make the accounts of the gulf of tonkim incident at the time any less false. Similarly, a view from the ground doesnt make the wmds and the iraqi cooperation with al qaeda any less false.

Let me get this straight. If we haven't fought in a war, our opinion on whether or not it's OK to send soldiers off to die in battle under false pretenses is invalid.

In other words, unless we've been in battle, we can't possibly know what we're talking about when we say that it is bad when our soldiers get killed for bullshit reasons.

Speaking of bullshit. .

Fly 03-20-2009 05:26 AM

Nice video. Thanks for posting :) (says the girl who probably would've been a hippie, but was born thirty years too late.)

This is true. They sold their idealism as cheaply as everyone else.

I'll be sure to let my friend Michael's parents know he was killed this summer for bullshit reasons.

The fact that people have suffered real losses in a war doesnt make the justification to go to war any more valid. In fact, it should be all the more reason to question those reasons.

macmanmike6100 03-26-2009 08:28 PM

the hippies of yesterday may have been morally right in the past but too many have become part of the very establishment that, today, is resistant to change, ill-equipped to solve the challenges of today, and too proud to admit it.

ASU2003 03-26-2009 08:37 PM

The 'Jump you fuckers' sign in front of the NYSE on Wall Street was great.

You do have to wonder what kind of world we would live in if the hippies had been in power for the last 50 years.

Flowers, and brownies doesn't sound too bad to me. No, but seriously, it might be scary.
