So... I watched the video, and perhaps it's because I'm no musical genius, but - I don't fully understand the relavence of those chords at all. Sure, they worked ok w/ the songs, but didn't necessarily sound anything like them?

yeah people have been borrowing riffs and chords forever, Take most green day songs and slow down the riffs and you will note for note find some very familiar songs.
