That's a not bad shot!

Holy Flip! I'll have to remember to stay at least 1000 yds away from that guy...

JamesB 01-10-2009 08:29 AM

Lol - snipers *practice* at 1000 yards.

The trick is to stay close. Snipers are like archers in medieval England: dangerous at a distance, but up close they're practically defenseless.

It was a good shot. But a bigger feat would be to catch the deer by hand.

mmmmmmmmm......deer steaks

Hmm, the video is down.

Here is the same vid:

Brillant shot... still 1707 yards short of the longest recorded kill, recorded by a Canadian sniper team in Afghanistan.

2,657 yd (2,430m) is almost superhuman.

I don't know about that. Personally I wouldn't want to be far away or close up if I was on his "to do list" for the day. These guys train a lot. When they train they train to kill people. I was in the Navy, they trained me to clean toilets. When I got done it was one damn clean toilet.

I may have exaggerated, but I was implying that it would be better to be up close than to be at a range.

I call shenanigans on that one as I have a few buddies who've done that sort of thing. You have to understand that each sniper element is a two man team consisting of the shooter and the spotter. The spotter is armed as well, and it's a good bet that between the two of them there is at least one M4/M16/AK47/assault rifle, and more than likely a handgun or two. Also, best of luck trying to get close to them as you most likely aren't going to be able to see them before they can kill you. The gist of what I'm saying is, don't mess with the dudes who go downrange as they can kill you close as well as far.

What if I were the Predator? What then?

Umm, I don't doubt that an experienced marksman can make a 950 yard shot, but the travel time seemed a bit short for me so I checked up on the cartridge...

It should take about 1.3 seconds for the bullet to travel to the target, it seemed a bit quick in the video, maybe a much easier 650-700 yard shot.

I could be mistaken though.
