I have a friend who dived off a boat into 4 feet of water on a sandbar in the ocean. Broke his neck and he'll be paralyzed for life. Because of some trick of the light it appeared to everyone on the boat that it was much deeper.

This guy's incredibly lucky.

If that were me, when I felt better I would beat the ever-loving shit out of the guy who was laughing. Seems to me that he was fully aware of the depths involved.
