There is some really great work here. I like that RollingStone cover. Thanks for posting that, Esoteric. |
did anyone else notice the half black/half white look in the last photo that Jetée posted?
on purpose or just how the lighting occurred during the shot? :hmm: |
Hah, interesting find guccilvr. I think it just has to do with the way the lighting occurred during the shot. Looks like maybe a door window or something, but that's pretty neat.

Waiting: Obama listens from a back stairwell as he is introduced in Muscatine, Iowa. It was his second or third speech of the day. Unlike many of the politicians I have photographed in the past, I find it is easy to get a photograph of Obama alone. He lets his staff do their jobs and not fuss over him. Nov. 7, 2007. http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...stream7/09.jpg I loved that he cleaned up after himself before leaving an ice cream shop in Wapello, Iowa. He didn't have to. The event was over and the press had left. He is used to taking care of things himself and I think this is one of the qualities that makes Obama different from so many other political candidates I've encountered. Nov. 7, 2007. http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...stream7/18.jpg Two staffers had just passed this site and done two pull-ups. Not to be outdone, Obama did three with ease, dropped and walked out to make a speech. Missoula, Mont., Apr. 5, 2008. © Callie Shell / Aurora for Time |
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3545/...970108@N07.jpg Barack Obama: The Freshman, Photographs by Lisa Jack http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3612/...2cd28490_o.jpg Obama from his freshman year, '81, by Lisa Jack, photographed while students at Occidental College. Jack, then a student of photography at "Oxy," sought a striking subject for a portrait project and was tipped off about a charismatic freshman named “Barry” Obama who would make an ideal subject. After the shoot, the negatives would remain locked away for the next 28 years. These photographs from 1980 offer a rare window back in time before the posters and before the campaign, when a 20-year-old young man was grappling with issues of self and purpose that would shape him to become the 44th President of theUnited States. At first worried these images could be used against President Obama, Jack realized they were incriminating of nothing other than being young and self-conscious, and that they offered a unique glimpse into how the man who made history went from being “Barry” to Barack. After having her one roll of film from that day sit forgotten for almost thirty years, Jack now offers up these images “so that others may see a side to him [she has] yet to observe captured in the maelstrom of contemporary media”. A selection of these photographs was first featured in Time Magazine’s 2008 “Person of the Year” Issue, which chose then President-elect Barack Obama as its honoree. This exhibition marks the first time these rare photographs have ever been printed and on display. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3407/...31d01786_b.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack01.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack02.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack03.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack04.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack05.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack06.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack07.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack08.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack09.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack10.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack11.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack12.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...isa_jack13.jpg Barack Obama.
