I've seen this guy's work before-he has a site of abandoned places-and I would love to know his technique for getting his images to look the way they do.

I think he does more than that. There's some softness and strong highlighting and some do have a painting-like look. I'm checking around to see if anyone knows what the technique might be. May even be partially with lens filters then post processing.
