Saw this on Digg this morning, didn't really find it funny. I think it's an indictment of a Puritanical culture which is still scared of women actually having sexual pleasure of their own. If they want to have sex with random frat guys, more power to them. They should be jumping around and chest-bumping too, in my book.
I recommend "He's a Stud, She's a Slut, and 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know" for those of you who don't think supporting this "chastity industrial complex" is a good idea. Careful, boys.. wouldn't want to "ruin" your girlfriend for her future husband, would you? Who wants a used catchers mitt? Damn, feminists just don't have a sense of humor, do they?

Are you being a good "man" today, Will? "What might happen if Disney, and the wider media, moved outside simple stereotypes and embraced caring, compassion and vulnerability as valid parts of masculinity?"

Funny or not, sexist or not... That's one hell of a Morgan Freeman impression.
The other very good one I've heard was in a parody video of a documentary about documentary voice-overs, which began with "Freeman" saying, "Ever since I was a young child, people have enjoyed the sound of my voice." Hope that guy pulls through. ![]() |

Very well done and funny. Oh and I'm not at all offended by the humor ...
But I've got to disagree on the awesomeness of the Morgan Freeman impression. Maybe it's good for a college kid? ![]()

I didn't find it very funny, either, because it just wasn't funny to me. More like...silly. Silly's fine but, like Benny Hill, it doesn't make me laugh.
Jinn, at least it acknowledges that there is a double standard. Personally, I would never take a walk of shame. I think, in order to walk it, you have to buy into it. Fuck those people, I'd say. ![]()

The three soldiers from Mulan singing about a girl worth fighting for: These characters are clearly buffoons, comic relief, and their professed desire for subservient women serve as a foil for one of the main themes of the movie - women are equal to men. Those same three characters appear dressed as the women they find worth fighting for later in the film. Pulling that out and using it as evidence of sexism is the sort of out of context shenanigans I would expect from Carl Rove. -----Added 10/8/2008 at 11 : 21 : 35----- Yes

Then they use Beauty and the Beast as an "example" of how important it is to be "barrel chested and wash board cut" in order to get the girl. I'm pretty sure the hideous monster got the girl in that one... Seriously, I thought that video was posted as a very dry joke...

Or consider the example presented from the The Emperor's New Groove, that scene where the young emperor is inspecting a line-up of bridal candidates, with his flippant and insensitive criticisms toward their individual appearances. Well, everyone - even kids - watching that movie knows the young emperor is a spoiled, self-centered and shallow young man - which that particular scene serves to reinforce. But why not show scenes of the other lead male character in that movie: Pacha, the gentle and responsible, yet strong and brave, husband and father? (And to those who would say Pacha is likewise presented as being hen-pecked, I say rubbish! Pacha is just sensitive and caring toward his pregnant wife, who he evidently loves and adores. A husband who is "hen-pecked" is one who cowtows to his wife because he is scared of her, for whatever reasons, though he quietly resents her and probably rebels against her through cowardly, passive-aggressive means.) Sexism does indeed exist in media, but I do not think that particular video made a good case for it. |

I think it was hilarious! I laughed like hell, and did so precisely because it reflects some of the stupidest aspects of American Puritanism. It was funny, and doesn't hold up by being taken seriously.
You go, will! Kol hakavod! *high five*
