Ive made a Rubens' Tube before. i have a thing for science.

im going to have to watch the rest of these. seeing how im on dial up, this should be a fun night.

edit: ive done the supercooling one plenty of times drinking. its nice to finally knows what happens. no longer will i pick up a brew, go to the couch, sit it down, pick it back up and exclaim "WHAT THE FUCK!?"

This thread is awesome. Now I need to go find some liquid nitrogen for that superconductivity test.

Those were all amazingly awesome.

Very interesting

The invisible water one was most likely CO2 in the tank.

Very cool stuff. I need to do the one with the beer.

very cool things :)

if you read the youtube comments for the invisible water it is supposed to be sulfur hexafloride a gas denser than the air around it.

I've seen the SF6 demo in real life, and it's really interesting.

The trapped lightning demo was sweet!

How do you think that the beer was frozen?

It's very simple. What happened was that he left it in an environment below zero degrees without disturbing it (video's description says the freezer, which does seem to be the most readily available one). The liquid's temperature dropped below zero, but since it was undisturbed no seed crystal formed and it didn't freeze. As soon as he tapped it on the table the liquid was sufficiently disturbed to form a seed crystal and froze almost instantly.

The same effect is responsible for freezing rain.
