Crazy

Lab diamonds = 1/4 inch thick laptops?

Saw this in a recent issue of Smithsonian. Fairly well written, but now I hate Debeers more than ever. I mean, engagement rings are faaaaaaaar too expensive, and it's all their fault. Anywhoo, I thought this was interesting.

Yeah rings are way to pricey, I've tried pricing them recently.

Luckily my lady isn't all too picky.

That was a fascinating article. I can see why Apollo's is so paranoid about their safety, could you imagine how pissed the African warlords will be when creating diamonds in a lab becomes commonplace? Watch out. Diamonds as semiconductors is an awesome concept. Talk about cutting edge, no pun intended!

This is a really interesting article. My SO used chemical vapor deposition this last term in his nanotechnology class to grow carbon nanotubes. If only I could get him to grow me a diamond...I'd much rather have one grown in a lab than a blood diamond, and I'd much rather avoid buying from deBeers--evil empire that they are.

Ever see that show "Ice Road Truckers?" Even if the diamonds aren't blood diamonds the amount of time, money, energy and serious risk spent finding small shinny objects for people to wear is insane, IMHO.

Wow, that was a really good read.

I hate diamond companies, and this only increases my hate for them. Thanks to them society tells us that to get married, or be in love, we must spend thousands of dollars on diamond pendants and rings. And if we don't, then shame on us.

That was an interesting article. It is amazing what can be done in a lab these days. And who knew that a diamond can be so versatile.

I really hope the chip manufacturing companies are looking into this, I always get so giddy when new technological possibilities are announced.
