He should be charged with negligent homicide. His recklessness put anyone/everyone outside his house in danger, and that lead to the death of his wife!

Had the same thought. Maybe she had her forehead directly against the other side? I really don't see how it would happen otherwise.

My thoughts exactly. What are they talking about, "Don't know if the man should be charged."? He killed somebody due to his own stupidity.

You don't get a Darwin Award for killing someone else. You get the award for removing stupid genes from our pool, not removing other genes because you're stupid.

LoL Did you guys listen to the newscast? She was outside. It went through an entire outside wall. It hit her in the chest on the second shot. The written story: http://www.kctv5.com/news/15698864/detail.html

Not so LoL...I wonder if he had plaster walls like my in-laws, if he couldn't poke a hole in it and reverted to his gun. And it sounds like a road rage type of situation, to me. Like maybe he got pissed off at the wall or the satellite tv instructions, and shot it. Partly because it took him two shots to make the hole with the gun.

I feel bad for her children, and for her parents. I hope my girls never marry anyone that stupid or wreckless.

Letter carrier catches falling baby

ALBANY, New York (AP) -- A postal worker is credited with saving a 1-year-old girl's life by catching her after the baby fell out of a second-story window in Albany, New York.

Lisa Harrell was delivering mail to a home late Monday morning when she noticed a baby in a window above the front door. Harrell says the next thing she knew, the baby had fallen into her arms.

When the baby's mother realized what had happened, she ran outside and grabbed the girl from Harrell. The woman thanked Harrell and then ran down the street to her mother's house.

Paramedics checked the baby at the scene but found no injuries.

No charges are being filed against the mother, who says she had placed her daughter on a bed that was up against the window. The mother said her back was turned when her daughter crawled out the open window.

Father Kills Son in Hunting Accident After Mistaking Him for Turkey

BELLE PLAINE, Minn. — The Sibley County Sheriff says that a man who accidentally shot and killed his 9-year-old son while they were hunting apparently mistook the boy for a turkey.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath says that Anthony Klaseus of Belle Plaine and his son Hunter were hunting turkey about three miles west of Belle Plaine around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when Klaseus shot his son in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun.

Klaseus dialed 911 on his cell phone. Emergency responders pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

"He was absolutely panicked. That would be an understatement," Ponath said. "Very distraught."

Ponath said the shooting was an accident but that his department is continuing to investigate the circumstances.

I don't mean to thread jack but these articles just strike me at how careless and ignorant people are becoming. Careless and ignorant are euphemisms as I can't think of any better words. Ignoramouses! That isn't even a real word. What is happening?

kids cant even trust their parents to do the right thing. I'm terrified of being a father for this reason, with my luck it'd be "toddler dies from massive head injuries after pulling turntables down on to itself while learning to walk" or something. yeeeeah.

.22 is pretty weak; I'd say the extent of stupidity it would take to think it's a good idea to poke a hole in a wall with any gun is about as extreme as the malice it would take to kill someone and try to make it look like an accident, and inversely proportional to the likelihood that this would happen by accident.

I feel so bad, I just burst out laughing when I read that. I mean honestly, mistakes son for a turkey? You are out hunting with your 9 year old and you mistake him for a turkey? I just don't understand that. The kid is 9, and you don't have him right beside you at all times while hunting... and mistaking him for a turkey?!?

I feel so sorry for the wife. what kind of a moron tried to put a TV up with a gun? thats like the Simpson's episode where homer is opening the beer with his gun, turning the tv on and off with it, turning the lights off with it.. but not so funny.

The world is an unintentionally scary place.

From what I heard (and I cant link the source) he had told his son to wait at the edge of a field while he tried to flush the turkeys back towards his kid.

He told police that his son had decided to follow him in after a bit and that he reactively shot when he saw the movement through the brush.

the first rule of hunting is to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be sure of your target. you NEVER, EVER shoot at movement in the brush.

guy should lose his guns and his hunting privileges forever.

maybe even be forced to wear a button that says "I shot and killed my 9 year old son because I am a moron" for the rest of his life

For those who don't know, the four cardinal rules of safe gun handling are

Treat all guns as if they are loaded
Finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire
Be aware of your target and what's behind it
Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to kill or destroy

He should know these, having been to a hunting safety class to get a permit. This should be an example in classes of how breaking the safety rules can end in tragedy. I guess the best we can hope for at this point is that others learn from it and nobody else dies.

Is that before or after he is forced to wear the bright orange jumpsuit? No one can mistake you for a turkey when you are wearing the attire required for prisoners.

From what I understand, hunting accidents are treated differently- as described from my friends in Minnesota. Makes no difference to me, makes no difference to the law: negligent homicide. He obviously did not attend that day for his gun safety course, MSD.

Part of the reason our prisons are so full in the US, relative to other countries, is because our sentences are so much harsher. Assuming this was a genuine accident - and that is clearly something the police need to determine in cases like this - then this guy is going to have enough punishment for the rest of his life, knowing that he killed his wife. I can't even begin to imagine how terrible I'd feel if I were to accidentally kill someone I loved through my own stupidity and nothing more.

Regardless of adding insult to injury, or salt to open wound, it was reckless homicide. Whether or not his conscious makes him feel guilty isn't point. Would I want to go to jail after killing my wife accidentally in such a manner: no. Do I deserve any different treatment than others that kill others in a reckless manner: no.

Fair is not always equal...part of government's job is deciding when to prosecute and when not to. It's one reason why I'm leaning toward the Republican candidate for Cook County States' Attorney here in Chicago, because he is in favor of allowing police officers to hand out warnings instead of filing charges against people who are found to possess small amounts of drugs. Just because something breaks the law doesn't mean it's a good use of taxpayer money to prosecute it.
