That was absolutely awesome, can you even begin to imagine what it must have been like setting the whole thing up?

Looks like an advanced version of a Mythbusters episode, except for the fact that the Mythbusters had to run theirs about 30 times to get it to work... after watching that episode I can appreciate how long it must have taken your guys to set their up - I mean it goes on for over 3 minutes with 25+ stages...

Actually, this is only a small clip of the original version. The 30 minute long version is called Der Lauf der Dinge (in English,
The Way Things Go The Way Things Go
), and it was created in 1987. I own it on videotape, it's very relaxing to watch.

It was good.... But there are problems with it. Every time the camera comes in close on the flames, it cuts. These sorts of things are supposed to be filmed all in one shot, so it's clear that it was all set up and run in one piece. This almost certainly wasn't all run in one piece.

That's what I came here to post, but you beat me to it. The video is spliced and the whole set-up was definitely not run in one piece.

The purpose of this shoot was to create an art film, not to prove it was a one-shot or not. We can't tell if it was one shot. However, the cut points seem to be spots where the reaction would take more than a few minutes to complete, so it seems to me that they do the splices just to "shorten time" rather than cheat.

Irregardless - still one helluva cool video...
