A sound engineer posing as a scientist engages in quack science. This man has confused the many worlds interpretation with dimensional physics. Alternate and parallel universes may be theorized by some, but should not be confused with higher dimensions. Above the fourth, dimensions exist in sizes only dealt with in quantum physics; this video displays a fairly strong grasp up to that point as the fourth (time) dimension in euclidean space represents the length of a vector. The only reason to posit these dimensions as such is to push string theory, which is non-falsifiable and therefore as invalid as competing non-falsifiable theories.

In short, this has nothing to do with science and everything to do with selling books on a subject in which the author has no business claiming to be an authority.

Absolutely great up until 5:01. His understanding of space time is good, and it is explained very clearly.

It's actually very neat theorizing up until 8:00, but then I start to lose him.

His explanation is sound, but his use of 'infinity' reveals a misunderstanding. If there are other "endings" potentiated by different beginnings, then they would necessarily be included in "infinity." Furthermore, an infinite line in a lower plane appears as an infinite line in a higher plane. An infinite line in 2D becomes an infinite plane in 3D, but it is still infinite.

Beyond that, his explanations start to become total hyperbole.

I believe his use of infinity is incorrect, but If I interpret his intentions correctly, i believe that he is meaning infinity being all possible outcomes, not all possibilities.

No way am I an expert, but I did watch every Saturday special with Brian Greene, Michio Kaku, and even Sam Niel on the [Discovery] Science Channel. While as far fetched as string theory is, it is the only current theory that can explain the wild inconsistency in our universe- namely the fact that quantum mechanics and relativity go together like cats and water.

I swear if someone posts a picture or a video of a cat loving a bath...

Each time they would explain the many world's theory it was coupled with explanation of extra dimensions. To me that does make sense- space has it's three clearly distinguishable dimensions of height, length, and depth, and we call duration (time) the fourth. If there was a fifth dimension perpendicular to all of those then spacetime would have "freedom" to move along this- alternate sets of spacetime.

Now there very well could/would be an infinite amount of these alternate universes. In mathematics it is perfectly allowable to have different sets of infinities, because your initial conditions of one system could yield infinitely many possibilities, as well as another [stable] system would yield even more possibilities unique from the other.

So instead of infinitely many universes based on our physics, how about "unlimited?" Because any other universe based on alternate [stable] laws of physics would also have unlimited number of possibilities.

Yeah string theory is unprovable, but it really brings back that awe and mystery of the universe that some of us didn't feel while sitting in church. At this point, it is just a theory, but once we get sensitive enough equipment we will be able to observe it's effects, if it is right to begin with.

Also, a correction above, I really should say that today string theory is practically unprovable. We haven't the technology to measure the effects predicted by string theory. However, that may change in a decade, a century, a millennium---new ideas and new technology are always around the corner.

Can't watch the videos here but Flatland-style musings are pretty pointless as is trying to imagine higher dimensions - they are not spatial dimensions so can't ever be comprehended in such a way.

It seems that once he gets to the 10th dimension, he's back at particles and therefore it appears as thought the whole thing is a mobius strip and it all begins again...
