Dolly Parton covers Collective Soul's "Shine"

Came across this, found it interesting, figured I'd post it here.

I'm not a fan of Dolly Parton's vocal style, nor do I particularly like this video, but I do like the instrumentation.

... I would have preferred a William Shatner cover.

I'll tell ya, though. My ex was a fan and I went to see her with him last year.

I was ready to be bored shitless, but that girl can put on a helluva show, and I was surprised that she could really sing. Everyone at that show had a blast.

I agree 100% with everything you said, secret.

Also, Collective Soul's version is so much better.

No debate there.

Sounds a bit like Hayseed Dixie, except she isn't joking.

Dolly performed at my university back when I was a student, and I was part of the opening performances, so us students were hanging out while she was doing her soundcheck. She is a genuinely happy, nice person. (I also met Bill Cosby at the same event, and the same can be said of him.)

I dig bluegrass covers of pop tunes. Fun stuff, even though I'm not a big Dolly fan.

I love Dolly. She's done some great covers...After the Gold Rush, Stairway to Heaven, Peace Train...many others. Not to mention she's written many, many good songs of her own. I think she's underrated.

I guess I could look this up, but how old is Dolly? 65? 70?

She is still a remarkably beautiful and fit woman... although she has this slightly artificial "doll-like" (NPI) appearance from the plastic surgery, she still comes off as very natural. Her docs, trainers, and wig techs are world-class.

I agree with her being underrated in the mainstream. However, the music community is very aware of her core bluegrass chops and what she's done to help countless others in their careers.
