SecretMethod70's Featured Track of the Week Nov 04 - 10, 2007
"Amaranth" is the first single off of Dark Passion Play, the first Nightwish album with their new lead vocalist, Anette Olzon. Personally, I'm a little mixed when it comes to her. Tarja (the old lead vocalist) may have been a pain in the ass to work with, but her more "operatic" stylings certainly made Nightwish stand apart from other metal bands with female singers. With Anette, Nightwish maintains much of their epic sound, but her voice certainly lacks the unique sound that Tarja gave them. Nonetheless, whether Anette is an improvement over Tarja or just a mediocre replacement, Nightwish's overall sound is still very much intact. Dark Passion Play is their second album in a row to be recorded with a full symphony. It is also the most expensive album in Finland's music history, coming in at 500,000 Euros (about $726,000). Title: Amaranth [mp3, 3:51, 4.72MB] Artist: Nightwish Album: Dark Passion Play (Roadrunner Records) Amazon: Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightwish Video: And, for those of you who are not already familiar with Nightwish and would like to hear an example of their sound with former vocalist Tarja Turunen, here is the video for "Nemo," a single off of their previous album...
