Maybe the saddest picture I've ever seen (not a joke)

Seriously... pretty much nothing gets to me. Dying people, dead people, grieving families... none of it gets a rise out of me. I empathize mentally, but I don't react at all.

This, though... for some reason, this made me pause a moment. It's just heartbreaking.

thats so sad...i looked at this thread, half expecting it to be a joke :(

it's terrible

telekinetic 11-05-2007 12:31 AM

I knew which picture this was before opening the thread.

I usually show my wife everything I see online...this, I won't let her see.

I hope that the authorities find a loving and caring family for this guy. Such love and loyalty should be rewarded.

Reese 11-05-2007 02:47 AM

That is sad.. I've never been dead before but It's always brightened my day when one of my pets came to cuddle up beside me when I've been sick.. You sometimes thinks it's just a silly animal until they do something like this and show you they are aware of what's going on.

bhamv 11-05-2007 03:30 AM

I've never had a dog so maybe I can't feel the full impact of the picture, but still....... that's pretty sad.

Martian 11-05-2007 05:13 AM

I must have a heart of stone; this picture has absolutely no effect on me.

The_Jazz 11-05-2007 05:16 AM

Wow. That's heartbreaking...

Craven Morehead 11-05-2007 07:15 AM

A geez, that's so sad. In 1994 my best freind was killed in a plane crash. For weeks after his death at the end of each day his dog, Spuds would wait for Jim to arrive home by standing at the end of their driveway.

bobby 11-05-2007 07:50 AM

Made my eyes tear up....I'm just that kind of guy....xoxoxoo

Sion 11-05-2007 12:25 PM

this is why people love dogs so much.

troit 11-05-2007 01:12 PM

He is man's best friend for a reason - Our dog is not just a pet, but rather a member of the family.

lagoonguy 11-05-2007 10:10 PM

geez, poor lil doggie (i guess poor human too)

Same thing I was thinking.

Dogs more often than not have loyalty and innocence. Both of these are endearing qualities. We don't know how they might process the concept of death of a best friend, but taking into account the loyalty and innocence, one can sympathize.

The picture communicates dedication and sadness, though whether one projects those emotions onto the dog really isn't clear.

Sun Tzu 11-07-2007 08:06 AM

You that is one of the saddest pictures Ive seen, I have three dogs so I will have an automatic influence.

Beyond_Borders 11-17-2007 11:03 PM

:( That's so sad.

Remind me of when my dad was dying. He was in a hospital bed in our living room, and the cat knew he wasn't allowed to jump up on the bed, but he would sit on the radiator for hours each day just staring at him, wondering when dad was going to get up and play, or scratch his head, or pick him up. When he died, the cat moped around for days, just as depressed as the rest of us.

Stuff with animals doesn't get me. If it was a kid there instead of a dog that would be worse.

Amaras 11-23-2007 09:22 PM

Oops

The pets I've known have always been an integral part of my family.
I'm trying to prevent the early (and planned) death of one in my new
adopted family.
That photo could easily be reversed, at least for me. I would be the
beside the pet.:shakehead:

Plan9 11-23-2007 09:24 PM

Hah, what asinine arrogance we have when we foolishly think we're the only species on this island Earth that feels the degree of pain that comes from the loss of a companion.

We're all animals. A good number of us feel loss.

I hesitated upon opening that picture.

I kinda wish I hadn't now, It reminds me of the day I had to put down my beloved little dog Rocky, he was only three and had developed a biting problem that could not be fixed.

I almost wanted to die with him, it ripped my soul and heart and guts out.

That is one of the most poignant pictures I have ever seen.

zed wolf 11-24-2007 06:32 AM

Long before I ever saw this picture I have let it be well known that I want my dogs at my funeral. Ive also said if anyone else attending owns a dog they should bring it with them or they stay home.
I like most dogs better then I like most people
