i'm gonna have to say yes. not because of any info about the image itself though. i just have to call bull shit.

SSJTWIZTA 09-28-2007 10:37 AM

Woah!

yeah, thats probably fake. if its not, kudos to those guys.

I'd want to know how deep that water is.

If it's only a few inches, then I'd say not fake.

If several feet (or more) then I'd question it.

Either way, it's pretty cool.

xxxafterglow 09-28-2007 07:42 PM

Hard to say - my inner skeptic says there ought to be more disturbance on the water surface (e.g. near the propeller).

I agree though - it's a cool pic. Who doesn't love bright airplanes?

JumpinJesus 09-28-2007 08:05 PM

that's a good question. If it is a fake, it's a damn good one, considering the reflections and the shadows.

pan6467 09-28-2007 11:33 PM

I maybe wrong but those look like modified versions of WW2 Navy aircraft that would land on carriers, if so it is highly feasible that this picture is real as they were built to skim over water for short periods of time.

Daniel_ 09-28-2007 11:54 PM

They're not even very heavilly modified...

I think it's genuine.

catback 09-29-2007 04:17 AM

Looks genuine, it's a good shot because it's hard to see that the planes are hopping in and out of the water and not holding a skim across the water.

Look at the left tire of the Furthest plane, it is not touching the water and if this were faked I would think the artist would have created a wake from that as well. Also, because of the speed of the plane the prop wash would not effect the water under the propeller. Or so it seems from other Photos taken in similar situations. Added to this , the spray behind the planes is absolutely right on ....This would be very hard to fake.

Then theres this:

Water-Skiing on Wheels

Rand Airport, South Africa – March 1, 2006 – Imagne seeing four North American T-6s flying in formation. Maybe you’ve seen that at an air show. But what if you saw four T-6s “water ski”?

Well if you wwere in SouthbAfrica recently you might have seen it live. Thanks to digital photography and the Internet, you can see this incredible feat.

The Flying Lions Aerobatic Team was practicing for the upcoming air show season and decided to demonstrate their precision flying by water skiing across the Klipdrift Dam near Johannesburg, South Africa. The team, made up of ten pilots, is featured on the new television program “Aviation Action Africa” which began airing on SuperSport and CSN on February 13.

This display team, made up of Arnie Meneghelli, Stewart Lithgow, Ellis Levin and lead by Scully Levin, took to the skies – and the water – to prepare the sequence they would later perform in front of the cameras.

“My team members have given me the feeling of safety. The discipline and level of professional skill that is practiced allows a sense of complete trust to engulf my senses, from our first briefing of the morning, to our de-brief after shows,” says Meneghelli on the Team’s Web site.

The show they will be featured on is a 26-minute monthly program focusing on aviation in South Africa and all over the world. It gives insight on all aspects of the Air Show South Africa (ASSA), including pilots, teams, personalities and the Air Show events.

Thats crazy stuff!! and nutz..

candydman 09-30-2007 10:47 AM

Not fake at all. These are the Flying Lions, a South African team flying ex-SAAF AT-6 Harvards (USAF name was Texan and USN name was SNJ). I have sadly not seen them doing the waterskiing display but have seen them at an airshow where I took this photo.

There is a video of them doing the waterskiing demonstration on Youtube at .
