Asimo... incredible, lifelike movement in a robot
The things this can do is incredible... carrying objects that are handed to it, setting them down and picking them up, walking along with a person as they change gate and direction, running at 6km/h and coming to an abrupt stop without forward momentum, at running pace, both feet are off the ground during the stride... pushing a cart...
...walking and running in smooth, natural circles. It's incredible. (I know this is not *new*, but I didn't see anything about it in here already so I thought I'd share it with the uninitiated) Last edited by analog; 08-07-2007 at 03:49 AM.. |

Something about the way it bends its arms when it runs hits me right in the Uncanny Valley...
It is amazingly lifelike. But the way it walks without back articulation reminds me of the gingerly steps of an elderly person with arthritis. Also, why would a robot need exercise? ![]() Still, it's a pretty impressive piece of gear. |
