that sounds funny, cause i installed my new comp accidentally with both cd drives as master, it didnt give a hoot. i could only see one, until i changed one to slave.
Your problem seems more like a driver issue. did you install any drivers. or did you do any changes to the bios before it screwed up.
or maybe is your cd drive on the same cable as your primary hard drive. that could make stuff screw up if the cd is master
Just FYI, i never use cable select. either master or slave. less haslle that way
