Massive Assault
So I really wanted to try this game. I downloaded the demo (I <3 my cable modem) and tried to install it. No dice. The drive space checker is hard coded to check the C drive, which is my OS partition. I only keep a few hundred megs of space on there, with my virtual memory on a separate partition. I sent them an email and they actually got back to me. The VP of PR is "sending a copy of [my] request to the support team" in the hopes that "they will find a solution to get [me] going." Went I sent them the email I never really expected a response, and I doubt that I'll hear any more, but I wanted to discuss this. I've run into it with a few demos, though never, I think, with a full game, though that may be because I've never bought the full game when a demo had this issue. I know most people these days run one giant C drive instead of multiple partitions, but it just strikes me as shortsighting, along the lines of old MS-DOS games requiring such a huge chunk of your memory that you had to use boot disks to get them running back in the day, and now are unable to use those programs at all since memory doesn't work the same. It would be SO easy to not be this lazy; why don't they make the tiny effort?
