Concert Review: Bright Eyes with M. Ward and Jim James - Pittsburgh

I caught Bright Eyes at Club Laga in Pittsburgh on Sunday and it was an amazing show. Bright Eyes is the brainchild of Conor Oberst, a 22-year old singer from Nebraska. The show included Oberst, a slide guitar player and two guests: M. Ward, a raspy alt-country singer a la Bob Dylan from Oregon, who put on a phenominal performance, and Jim James, the lead singer of relatively new indie band My Morning Jacket. James' greatest characteristic is his piercing, untouchable voice. His powerful notes mixed with Ward's folky, dry guitar and Oberst unbelievable lyrical skills made for one helluva concert.

Anything I thought about Bright Eyes before the show is completely irrelevent now. I had always loved Oberst for his witty, mature lyrics, but his performance solidified it even more. His style shifted almost completely to alt-country for the entire show, and left behind his usual indie-rock style, but it worked perfectly.
