Wouldn't a 5900 kill a 9600xt. Flash the bios and you have a 5950, and your core speed will be automatically boosted and your vcore will be automatically increased.
9800 pro is a great card--typically a frame or 2 faster than 5950 (?) , but not enough to make much of a diff, and I've heard that 5950 will probably be faster on some future direct x games, but also probably not much of a difference.
Anyway, get whatever is cheap, either 9800 or 5900, and flash the bios, and you've got yourself a great card for sub 200 bucks.
I don't have that kind of money and just ordered a Geforce Ti4200, which is gonna be better than a 5200 or 5600, since that is a joke on Directx 9 anyway, and sucks at directx 8.
My advice...
Sub 200--get 9800 or 5900--whatever's cheap. Flash bios. Your clock and mem speeds will now be running at the speed of almost 400 dollar cards.
Sub 100--get GeForce Ti4200--you can order from pccupplysource.com.
Hard card to find though. Its old, but kills its replacements. Though its replacements are directx 9 compatible, nvidia had to change the wording on its later cards since the low end dx9 card sucked so hard.
Do NOT get a 5600. It fucking blows.
5700 series is allright. Not worth it though, just get the 9800 if you're looking at going this high anyway, or 5900.
5800 fucking blows as well, by the way.
And sorry, I just can't imagine why you'd wanna get then 9600xt over the 9800 pro for the price that they are going for now.
