Hi everyone.
I recently bought a mountain bike at a garage sale for AUD $15 (about $11 or $12 American dollars, I think). I got all the rust off it, repaired the brakes, got a new inner tube, repaired the gears, tightened everything up, and basically made it worth a hundred times what I paid for it. It's now in excellent condition and rivals my friend's brand new professional bike
I'm taking up bike riding for some exercise but I'm wondering what I can do on those days when riding/walking/running outside just aren't possible.
Basically what I'm looking into is buying or possibly making some sort of frame to put under the rear wheel to lift the bike a few inches off the ground. When I put it on the gear which makes the pedals harder to push (good for long, flat riding) there is quite a bit of friction, and I think it should be enough to get the heart pumping. That way I can place it in a room inside and use it like an exercise bike at a gym, and just lift it off the frame on good days to ride it outside.
I've been attempting to draw up some plans but I'm having a bit of trouble working out exactly how to mount the bike so it won't fall to one side and fall off, and so the frame won't get in the way of the pedals/spokes/wheel itself.
Does anyone know of something I can buy to get my idea off the ground, so to speak? Can anyone think of any problems? Comments? I'm excited about this idea and I'd love to know what people think!
