I'm going to second those who recommended 'The Quiet Earth', 'City of God' and 'Schizopolis'.
Happiness is a very good character with some of the most fucked up characters imaginable. Watch with an open mind, very black humour.
'Naked Lunch', anyone? Any movie that involves a giant cockroach that talks out of its arse has to be good...
'Crime 101' ain't bad, good independant Kiwi film about a bunch of uni students who get in way over their heads...
