I vote for life without parole although I would have been ineligible for that jury because I do not support the death penalty.
Regardless of my views though, I was amazed by how much the jurors were emotionally tortured by a system that forces them to judge the punishment separate from the question of guilt. In a system with no death penalty such people are saved from such a terrible choice and the unending second guesses of their gung-ho friends and relatives.
I think people who swagger around and talk about "frying the fuckers", the bold rhetoric of summary execution and "pussy jurors who make bad decisions" should have the guts to just come out and say that perhaps they really would prefer a legal system where death is cold, certain and bureaucratic - like it is in China.
Either that or just sit down and accept the decision of twelve good men and women who had to make one of the hardest decisions of their life.
