I used to use VLC. It's not bad. It would play some DVDs that Xine or mplayer would not (and vice-versa). I'm surprised it's not more popular with it's easy use and multi-platform support.
I'm not using it anymore cause Xine support has seemed to gotten better, and I haven't had any problems lately.
