the grades:

iktoweya: 60. I've given you a passing (barely) grade based solely on the fact that I started this thread in the nonsense forum, instead of the knowledge forum where it should have gone. Based on that, I presume that you didnt think I would grade the essays in a serious manner, which was my intention. Your spelling, grammar and punctuation were basically a non-issue (though what's up with the formatting?) so you didnt lose any points there. Unfortunately, the content of your essay was mostly gibberish. I suspect that everything you wrote came off the top of your head, as opposed to having been researched, as the directions indicated.

If you would like, I'll give you another question and you can take another, more serious attempt. This grade will be wiped from the books in that case.

krwlz: 94. A well-written and well-researched essay. some minor spelling and punctuation errors cost you a perfect grade. (you omitted the closing quotation marks on Hoover's campaign slogan, as well as the apostrophe in "Hoover's". Also, in your last paragraph, the word should be "than" not "then". Other than those minor mistakes, your essay was exceptional. Good job.

monody: 82. thoughtful and well-written. I felt you could have supported your arguements a little better though. also, I think the parallels between the seven dwarves and the seven deadly sins should have been spelled out more clearly.

grumpyolddude: 91. good work. your essay is an excellent example of how to construct an opinion piece. you move from point to point in a logical and linear manner, building up from the groundwork laid in the opening. I would have preferred to see some concrete, real-world examples included in support of your arguments, but given the constraints of length, the lack of these can be overlooked somewhat. no problems with grammar or spelling/punctuation. good work.

all others: Incomplete. I am extending the deadline until Monday at midnight (EST). any not having their essays in by then will receive a 0 and fail the class.
