Well, I don't know so much about the
everyone else part, but I'll use a broad brush here and paint you a resounding "Yes".
They are taught duty, honor, pride, respect, loyalty and teamwork. I spent eight year in the United States Air Force. I wouldn't trade that time, or experience for anything in the world.

Unfortunately, what Lebell said is also true. But then again, you are going to have jerks and a**holes everywhere you go. They seem to breed faster than cockroaches. The military is, of course, no exception to this rule.

Feh...you've seen too many movies, my friend. Yeah, OK, maybe in Basic Training, but even then it's not that bad, if you just keep your nose clean and do what you are supposed to be doing.
As an end note, I will add that there is camaraderie amongst current and former members of the armed forces that a "civilian" will never comprehend.
